Betban
Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum and wanted to introduce myself. A few years ago I got into scroll sawing and loved it. Started out with a small Craftsman and ended up buying a nice Dewalt. I've been on the Steve Good email distribution list for a while now and that's been good information for sure. The problem I have is, I also jumped head first into wood turning, bought every wood working tool that ended with the word 'saw' and then thought I needed to learn how to do wood burning. I made several things with the scroll saw and the lathe, along with numerous other things with all the other tools I bought. Needless to say, although the things I made are nice, I did not perfect my skills with any one tool. But, the machine I seemed to go back to the most is the scroll saw so this fall when I get back in our workshop, I want to focus on doing scroll saw work more then any of the other ones. And that's why I joined this Forum! amazingkevin, Scrolling Steve and lawson56

LarryEA
Well Betty, ... uuhhhh ...well ... Oh, Welcome. Couldn't think there for a sec. I would 'L-O-V-E' to see your shop. How about a few pictures and include a couple of your woodwork. Sounds like you would be a fantastic intarsia artist. Anywho...An extremely annoying misuse of the word "anyhow." Generally used by people who think they're being clever. Hope you stick around and don't start joining a 100 other 'CLUBS" If you stay long enough, you will find the other side.... Addiction !! To scrollsawing.

Scrappile
Welcome to the forum, glad you joined. I do not think you are any different than a lot of us. I have all kinds of tools and many wood working interests, i.e., boat building, lathe turning, organ building, toy making, cigar box guitars, the list goes on. Currently my focus is scrolling but I do not know how long that will last.... I think there is a quote for this "jack of all trades, master of none" I like all wood working, have really mastered none...
Betban
Thanks for the warm welcome. I guess my first question is: How do I upload a picture so you can see what I've done so far? Edited September 11, 2015 by Betban
LarryEA
Thanks for the warm welcome. I guess my first question is: How do I upload a picture so you can see what I've done so far? Look at the bar at the top of the page, You will see "Articles", click on that and you will find a "How to Attach/Upload" or something like that. Also, if you go to "Home" page, on the right side is..."Articles" Lots of goodies to read.
Betban
Hopefully I uploaded these correctly. The first one is a cross I did last year. That was the only cross I did. The second one I did for my grandson who lives in Canada. It's 5 pieces. Third one was a Christmas present for my hair dresser. The D-2 was the logo of her Salon. The Texas one is self explanatory. I love making anything Texas. And the last picture is of snowmen I turned on the lathe last year. Thanks for the top to go to the Articles section. bobscroll

You seem to be a natural with the scroll saw, better than I was when I first started. Well your off to a great start so ask your questions and you never know where it may lead. Betban
Thanks Marg and Larry. I don't know if others are hard on themselves but I'm terrible for not allowing myself to think I'm OK at this. I haven't touched a tool all summer for two reasons. Temperatures here are high 90's to over 100 so the shop gets too hot. 2nd reason was, I traded in my big SUV and bought a little Mazda Miata 6 speed and have been having a blast driving back roads with the Miata club. Now I'm trying to come up with a pattern or idea for scroll sawing my Miata, so that tells me I still love working with the wood. I notice a lot of articles talk about the free software GIMP. Is it easier to learn than Photoshop? I have Photoshop but I don't use it much so I keep forgetting all the cool stuff it can do. Now that I'm talking on this forum, the excitement to get back into the shop is increasing. Now that I'm talking on this forum, the excitement to get back into the shop is increasing. first of all, Welcome to our family. You certainly our craft minded. There are 2 free pattern making items on the lines of photoshop. One is GIMP like you mentioned and the other is Inkscape. Both are easy to learn, If you look in the University tab toward the bottom of the Forum page, you will find that Travis ( our industrious and knowledgeable leader ) has made several tutorial videos that you should find very helpful. should you decide to try one or more of his classes, and they are free also, and have any problems trying to learn something there, just drop him a note and he will get back to you and help you. He is a wonderfully helpful person. Hope this is helpful to you Dick heppnerguy
Shannon Banks
Woo Hoo!! Another lady scroller!! Welcome to the Village! I'm new here myself. Just started scrolling a few months ago. Started out with an ANTIQUE Craftsman that my dad gave me, then recently purchased a slight upgrade to a Harbor freight Scroll Saw, It's alright, but I can see another upgrade in my near future. LOL Love your items! i'm still in the 1/4" door hanger type cutouts, haven't ventured into anything else yet, but plan on doing some cutting after I get over the jetlag from our vacation last week. Looking forward to seeing more of your items! Betban
Mimi
Hey Betty, I go through you town at least once a month heading to McGregor Tx to see my daughter.I ride amtrak from OKC I have anywhere between a 2 and 3 hour lay over at the train station. I really like all your work. I understand what you mean about the heat. It gets too hot in my garage also. I am not looking forward to the winter either but I do have a heater in my garage so that does help some. Well once again welcome and hope to see ya around.
