kardar2
Hello all I got my book yesterday. But the first box is a ribbon box. Under materials the ribbon calls for oak , red veneer and yellow veneer. I don't know where the yellow veneer comes in at. There is no istructions on the glue up. Is the yellow veneer between the small red veneer strip and the purpleheart center strip? This would be my first ever experience with veneer. Where is a good place to buy this kind of veneer? I will look on YouTube maybe Carol has a video on the ribbon part. Thanks for your help. Karl
Phantom Scroller
You need a box man boxaholic Dan DWSUDEKUM he might be able to help. I'm sure you could use other woods. Roly
DWSUDEKUM
Thanks Roly. I was just replying to this. Karl you can indeed use different woods than are specified in the book. The book is just a guide and is meant to give you a solid foundation on which to build upon. Below is one of the ribbon boxes that I made a while back. The ribbon is made from red cedar, pine and red cedar and it is on a pine box. I try to make the ribbon fit the box as much as possible. Here are a couple of different ones This one I cut from Baltic Birch Plywood Here is another one cut from Baltic Birch Ply however this one was tinted a light pinkish color As you can imagine since we are working in wood and can vary the thickness and type(s) of wood used you can get a very wide variety of colorful ribbons. If you have any questions please feel free to ask them I will be more than happy to answer them if possible. DW Scrolling Steve
kardar2
Thanks DW, yep I know I could use other wood and I could use a white wood on a dark box such as a walnut box. But thought this ribbon looked like a good challenge. Maybe I will skip the veneer one less thing to buy I guess. Less time consuming too. DWSUDEKUM
If you go to your local Woodcraft store in your case the closest looks to be in Sacramento or stop online at woodcraft.com you can purchase venier stock with no problem.
