Hi Dominik. Welcome to the Village. We're glad you found us. I wasn't sure if you were looking for patterns or tutorials. But here's a few good places to start:

You can find a ton of free patterns in the Pattern Library here at SSV. Here are a few easy patterns to get you going:

Steve Good has a lot of great patterns. You can find his website at:

Scroll Saw Goodies has a lot of tutorials, articles and free patterns. You can find that at: http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com

You might want to check this tutorial out on how to cut portrait style patterns: http://www.scrollsawgoodies.com/2008/10/hooked/

And here's a tutorial on cutting compound Christmas ornaments: http://www.scrollsawgoodies.com/2009/01 ... ornaments/

Hopefully this well get you on your way. Feel free to ask questions. There's a lot of great people here willing to help. Can't wait to see your first project. Anyway, welcome aboard. Jump in and have some fun!

  • 2 weeks later...

I think the best way to learn is to see everything you can! Ask as many questions as you can think of and then jump in there and practice cutting with your saw. Start by cutting lines, zig zags, circles......basically get used to your saw and it's capabilities and how to control it. Be sure to buy good blades too......I think that's half the battle lol. I personally only use FD blades from Mikes. Find patterns that excite you and make you want to cut them NOW....and just jump in and give them a try. Ask more questions. And be sure to post your cuttings here.....you'll get feedback that is just invaluable, not to mention loads of encouragement! And if you're interested in learning to make patterns, Travis has some awesome tutorials that will teach you how.
