Hello all,

Newbie here from Texas, I have always enjoyed wood working and modeling. I just purchased a cheap scroll saw from Harbor Freight, I know they are not the best, but I figured for my first it will be good enough. I have used it a few times since the purchase, but I was thinking I would try and make some Christmas presents this year. So I started by looking through You Tube and found this channel Scroll Saw Goodies with Travis Cook and he mentioned this site so here I am and ready to learn from the experts. I thoughts about the Christmas presents is maybe shelf sitter names, last names for families and first names for single people I know.

A little about me, single male, 51, live in the northwest are of Houston, Texas. My garage is my make shift shop, so it is set up and taken down most every time I work out there.

Thanks for letting me into the group, I hope to learn a lot.

Thanks,

Jeff

Welcome, Jeff.  This is a great place to learn the craft of scrolling.  You might also might visit Steve Good's site.  He has several free downloadable pattern makers in which you just type in the name and font and you can print out a pattern.  I used this to learn the basics of scrolling. It can be located at  www.scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com.

Have fun,

Ward

Hi Jeff.

I was going to suggest the same thing to you as did Ward. It sounds like just the key for you. The main thing for you to get are the right blades. If you are using some purchased at a big box store, they are not what you want to be using... go to www.woodenteddybear.com. this is one place to get the correct blades there are many other places too, but this is the one that I use.

I have watched a lot of his video's on You Tube, very interesting guy.

Last night I opened up Ink Scape and started playing, I believe I made my first pattern with it, nothing fancy but it will give my the basics. It will be the word "family" mounted on a base.

I just wanted to thank everyone for such a warm welcome.
