Falcon Posted October 14, 2015 Report Posted October 14, 2015 I see a lot of things on Etsy selling Dallas Cowboy hand made items. I have a friend who wants a scrolled Dallas Cowboys helmet and a Denver Bronco helmet. Not how to make them without infringing on copyright laws??? Any suggestions or do I tell them sorry can't do it. Sounds like a simple question I am just not sure. Thanks Quote
TheWoodArtist Posted October 14, 2015 Report Posted October 14, 2015 These are copyrighted and yes there are people selling them and unless they have the license to do so they are doing it illegally. That being said, if you make them to give away without charging then I believe you would be ok. You could sale them but you are doing it at a risk just like the ones doing it without a license. I know that the ncaa is strict on this but not sure about the others. The license is expensive too. For ncaa it ranges from $2000 and up per school. Now I know you can make something similar without using the logo or image and that isn't infringement. Hope this explains it for you. A rule of thought that I use is this: if it's used for something comercially or is used by another source it's probably copyrighted. Also most logos have the "R" in a circle or has the copyright on them them are defintly copyrighted and to sale them you have to get permission from the owners (nfl and team) or buy a license to do it.
