Vector01
I'm looking for suggestions on a good wood finish (clear gloss) that is fairly easy to apply and will give me a high luster finish. The weather here is finally getting to where it should be (mid 50's) during the day. Going outside to use a spray finish is out and I don't have a workshop where I can spray inside. I've been using MinWax polyacrylic brush on but I'm not happy with it. The other issue is a few of the pieces have small inside areas to finish (see pic). I really don't want to have to get in these areas to sand between coats. I'm not concerned with any finish that may darken the wood. All the pieces will be dark stained anyways. I've seen some great finishes that are used on things like wooden boxes. The final finish is deep and looks like glass. Firedkm
I like using Danish oil for my finishes. It will not give you the deep glass shine. It is really easy use.
Travis
I have the same problem. Too cold in the garage for finishing. I use a clear acrylic spray finish. The acrylic won't stink up the house nearly as much. You can even find some Krylon (i think) acrylic in the craft store that is suppose to be low odor. I've tried it a couple of times and it works nice. But the best way to apply the finish is when your significant other is out shopping. grampa
My mate builds model aircraft and he uses a small air brush it doese not pump out a great volume of varnish and it gets in to all the small spaces, he uses it in his spare bedroom where he builds his models I have been there when he has used it and the fumes are not that bad........Paul www.airbrush-pro.co.uk/index1.html
Vector01
Hi All: After some research I'm going to try some Watco Danish oil and Minwax Wipe on Poly. I have plenty of scrap wood to test different combinations on. Thanks!
Dan
Krylon Triple Thick Crystal Clear Glaze will give you a high-gloss, wet look. The only problem is you must have good ventilation. Otherwise, I'd go with a spray-on poly.
qlty
If its cold out but no wind I have had success with acrylic clear spraying the piece out side in a big cardboard box and bringing it right inside to dry.As mentioned before the acrylic has the least odor.
