kardar2
Hello All, Hey I was youtubing and got sucked into the Vortex LOL. Don't ask me where I took a wrong turn. I ended up watching model car building and remembering them there good old days of being a kid putting model cars together. (I am 50 now) I guess some of think I am still a kid LOL. Any how I went to the RC (remote control) car store a hobby store strictly for model building (trains, plastic car and trucks and ships.and along with RC cars) as I was looking at the models and paints I ran across some great stuff. The have really thin wood and light and small brass tubing (wind chimes) also they had all the small bits that us scrolled use and they sell a lot of cool stuff to. So if you have a hobby shop in the area check them out. I was doing some price comparison with the models and paints with Michaels. Have a great day and weekend. browders
It's funny how these things work out. Here in NW Montana, woodworking supply stores are nonexistent. If it isn't at Lowes, Home Depot, or a handful of local hardware stores (and it isn't), you aren't going to find it around here. A while back, my wife dragged me into Michael's craft store totally against my will. While there, I noticed that they sell baltic birch plywood. The only source in my area. It may be a little more expensive, but at least it's available. Jim woodworker13403A, GrampaJim and oneleggimp
WayneMahler
Most of the hobby stores around here closed up. Never thought about them as a source for things for wood working though. Nice info. The Michael's here does not sell the Baltic birch ply but we have a rockler about 25 miles away. Still a bit pricey though. ike
Here in the cincinnati area there isn't many if any hobby stores left. but we do have Paxton Woods a lumber yard which i buy popular @ $2 to $2,20 a board foot The edges are not finished but I very seldom need that. Oh yes I have a saw mill right down the road where I get end pieces free. oneleggimp
Sparkey
We have a Woodcraft and they are also expensive. Other than that it's Lowe's or Home Depot.
NC Scroller
There are more place around that sell items like Baltic birch and other scroll saw wood. Check in your towns and cities for custom cabinet and custom kitchen places and stop and ask them. They have local sources besides the normal Lowes and HD. Now granted some of these source may only sell to commercial accounts. In that case a little sweet talking with your local cabinet guys could have them add a extra couple of pieces on their next order. Also local cabinet / custom build place often have scrap piles that you might be able to sort through for free or a minimum amount.
