ChelCass Posted November 9, 2015 Report Posted November 9, 2015 To all you veterans a lot of restaurants are giving free dinners to the Vets, spouse has to pay unless she is a vet too. Check your local restaurant and see what they have to offer. Also our local American veterans club is holding a free dinner tonight. wombatie 1 Quote

oldhudson Posted November 11, 2015 Report Posted November 11, 2015 For all of you carrying a DD 214 in your wallet or stashed in a file drawer somewhere - Welcome Home! In the mid 1960's, when I enlisted, about 10% of the US males went in to the military, of course we had the draft back then. I was against the draft at that time. Now in the 21st century about 1% of US males serve. Somethings wrong with this picture. We seem to be creating a "warrior class" of people. Now, I think every young US citizen, when they finish school should serve 2 or 3 years of mandatory government service. If someone doesn't want to put on a uniform and take the oath, then 3 years working in a school or hospital. Someone flag this if inappropriate for this forum. Lucky2 1 Quote

jerry1939 Posted November 13, 2015 Report Posted November 13, 2015 OldHudson, My Dad (RIP) was wounded in WW1. 3 boys in our family. At different times, we each volunteered to serve our Country. Oldest brother (RIP) was wounded in Korea. Dad always said that EVERY young man (& todays young women) should be required to serve. A heck of a lot of people today needed to learn discipline. jerry Quote
