Hawk
Ok, I'm not sure this goes here, but here it is! When I was big into Scrolling I had a Delta P-20, to say I loved it would be an under statement, this thing was great. And like a story that's been told a million times I lost it in a divorce. I have been searching for another one, I can find them.....in California !!! a bit to far away. Am I barking up a dead tree trying to get another one, I've been told the 788 is just as good, never used one, can it even be comapired to the P-20? I'm using a Delta Shop Master, there is almost no clearence for cutting, and changing the blade is....well......frustrating !!!!!!! I am starting to get many requests for projects and the Delta I have ain't going to work in the long run, would make a good boat anchor I believe !!! Anyhow.......Thanks for letting me vent, back to the never ending searching....... Chris LarryEA

Lucky2
Yeah Chris, the Delta-20 is a thing of the past, it's even hard to get parts for them. If you could swing it, I'd suggest that you buy either a EX21 or a Dewalt788, they're both good saws with the EX21 just out ranking the Dewalt. Either way you will be way farther ahead than to keep cutting on the Delta Shopmaster. Len Falcon
Kepy
You might want to consider the Delta 694 Chris as it is a clone of the DeWalt and can be found cheaper.

heppnerguy
My saw started rattling like crazy, a couple of weeks ago. I have been using it for more then 10 years and it has been a great saw. It his was my DeWalt 788. I also have a Hawk but I like using my DeWalt way better. Anyway I went on line and found a new one for under $400 so I bought it and it was delivered, free freight in three days to my door. I am happy again and will some day buy bearings and rebuild my other saw too. I pays to look around for them on line. Never know when a deal will pop up. My first one I found on line for $349 delivered. So there you go Dick heppnerguy
ike
well it sounds like you are going to have a hard time finding parts or a saw. about a month ago I found a used DeWalt type 1 at $150. I bought it sight unseen I figured if it needed work I could get it refurbished for $285 so I bought it and it is in great shape.
redwine
Hawk, I feel for you about not having one of the best scroll saws made and not receiving it from the divorce is unbelievable! I have one that is among the last to be made and wouldn't trade it for any thing else on the market now. It is true parts are becoming harder to find but will keep it till even a machinist can no longer make the part. If you do locate one, there are a couple of things to check, first is the amount of up and down movement of the lower blade clamp, if there is a lot that pen is well worn and it is no longer available. I have went through 3 of them in 10 years and now having a machinist make 2 for me for $80. The second thing is the movement of the arms sideways and I believe those bronze bearing too are no longer available but it would take a lot of stress to wear these to the point of replacement. One other item is the link between the 2 arms as it has 2 very small ball bearing (the balls themselves). When one of the bearing let go you have tiny bearing every where! The link is no longer available but bearings made for routers will fit, just take a measurement and purchase 2 for about $11 and have some one press out the old ones and replace with the new ones that withstand 32000 rpms. This is the only problems I have ever had with mine and it is well used believe me! Redwine
