realfEZ Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 Hi Gray are you using new blades?, have you tried blades that used to work fine? Quote
Grampedstl Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 Alcohol! No not that kind! Denatured, rubbing, etc. Wipe the ends of the blades before inserting. This cleans any oil from the manufacturing and leaves no petroleum based residue. Also take a folded paper towel and clean out the blade holders with the alcohol. You might also sand the ends of the blade to slightly rough the surface. GrampedStl Quote
blame Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 could be a million reasons why there not holding. what kind of saw is it? when i had my wilton saw i had alot of blade issues thou usually with the top holder Quote
Gray Posted February 11, 2009 Author Report Posted February 11, 2009 i'm using a craftsman saw and never had any problems before. these are a new pack of blades. i'll try the cleaning the ends and see if that is the problem. maybe its the oil on the blades making it slip. i'll let you know what i find out. thanks guys Quote
Travis Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Sometimes that happens to me too. Just fold over a piece of sandpaper and put the end of the blade and scratch up the end a little. That gives the clamps a little something to bite on and removes that oil GrampedStl mentioned. When I got my Craftsman, I unscrewed the thumbscrew on both the top and bottom blade holders. I used a file to flatten the edge. Sometimes during manufacturing, the thumbscrew has a little nib on the end which can cause problems holding the blade tight. Good luck! Quote
paul44224 Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 I have a Craftsman 16" that, if I don't sand the ends of the blade as suggested, the blades always pop out of the bottom holder. Paul Quote
Gray Posted February 12, 2009 Author Report Posted February 12, 2009 thanks guys. the sandpaper did the trick. i guess maybe theres too much oil on the blades. i run the sandpaper over the ends a couple times and i also rubbed the end with alcohol. only takes a couple of seconds and im in business. thanks for the help i knew i could count on you guys Quote
