jerry1939
Hi, 3/4" oak. Soaked in a 50/50 mixture of mineral oil and boiled linseed oil. Per one of the suggestions in the link below, I rubbed it a lot with a plain paper bag. Unable to see that it did anything. http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/topic/17283-another-how-do-i-finish-a-trivet-question/ It never ceases to amaze me how quickly and readily you nice folks jump in and share your wisdom and experience. It is appreciated! Am done sawing until spring. (Read "Iowa - unheated garage") I posted a "Cheat Sheet" in PATTERN MAKING for any novice that would like to design their own with Inkscape. jerry Lucky2, Rob, bobscroll and 3 others

Fish
Great job, very nice wood too. My garage wasn't heated either, I bought a small heater from Walmart and I'm in heaven now. Only cost $
jerry1939
Terrylee; A Blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year to you as well. Fish; Our garage isn't wired heavy enough for a decent sized heater. That's OK. I do carving in the house over winter for a change of pace. jerry
DWSUDEKUM
Nicely done Jerry. Thanks for sharing this with us. BTW the BLO diluted like that will soak into the grain of the wood and over time harden sealing it. You may wish to do it again in a month or so. penquin
Looks great, can sort of understand the not heated garage we sort of have that situation here in Southern Calif. when it gets around 50 which is like 20 in Iowa for us. Got to look at your Cheat sheet, always fun to learn a new thing. thank you. jim penquin

Kepy
Did you let it dry completely before rubbing it with the paper bag?
jerry1939
Hi Kepy, 48 hours, hanging in the garage, but the humidity was high. Per DW's suggestion, I will let it hang in a cold Iowa garage for 6 weeks and give it another bath. Wait months after that to try the paper bag again. Currently it still has a noticeable BLO smell. Am in no rush to give them away. jerry
