Scrappile
This is one I started in early October, then got side tracked doing the Tawny Eagle one. I just went back and finished it. I have always loved the scrolling done in slabs of wood, that included the bark and all. I have never found a supplier for the slabs that I could afford. At a carving show I went to this summer I did pick up this piece of basswood for $2.00 that was somewhat like what I wanted. This is a Mike Williams pattern. Reduced in size around 50%, but one of my favorite patterns. bobscroll, lawson56, Lucky2 and 5 others

mikewix
Nice job Paul. I love the slab wood it gives the elk a natural look. I just got a couple of slabs myself, but haven't done anything with them yet but after seeing your project I can't wait to give it a try. Thanks for showing us. Scrappile
Thank you all for the very nice comments. Very well done, I like it a lot......... How thick are the slabs that you work with...................... Merlin, this piece was only a little over a 1/4" (6.35mm). Most slabs I have seen on the internet are around 19mm or thicker. I like to work with somewhere around 10mm.

heppnerguy
Paul, I can't for the life of me, see why you would want to cut this pattern, what attracted you to it? Just teasing you, this is another example of 'the spiral blade king' in action. A wonderful piece indeed. You never cease to amaze me.
