Hello from NC

Hi. I am from the High Country of NC. I am retired and live a few miles from the Blue ridge Parkway with my wife of 45 years. We are up at 3500' so the climate here in the 'south' is very similar to my birthplace, Chicopee, MA in Western MA.

We are about 90 miles northeast of Charlotte, NC and we love it here.

I have been working intarsia for about a year now and I am doing some scroll saw cutouts also I have posted in the gallery under labonteart some of the things I have done.

I attended a 3 day class on Intarsia at the Judy Roberts Studio in Tn. last Oct. and that was most interesting and enjoyable.

Looking forward to learning a lot from all of you

Rick

Welcome Rick.  I too enjoy making an occasional intarsia piece but I have never had the privilage to attending any of JGR classes. I am a little familiar with your area because I was stationed at Fort Bragg, near Fayetteville, (sp) for almost three years. I hope you log on often because we then can get to know everyone better, that way. Explore all the nooks and crannies and give some of our free patterns a shot. Glad you are here

John, people who like mountains, call it 'Gods Country.'  I lived in North Carolina and think it is beautiful place to live.

In a little fairness, my wife was not overwhelmed by it because she likes the plains, open fields, grasslands...

It is tourist/vacation land.

Hi Rick,

welcome to SSV. I am also a new mwmber, but across the pond in the UK. Not done a lot with the scrollsaw, but would like to get into making intarsia this year whilst still making a few of my bandsaw boxes.  I am retired and only got into woodworking 2 years ago and it is so much fun.

See you aroun

Malcolm

Hi Rick!

Welcome aboard!

You are probably not too far from Brasstown, NC - home of the John C. Campbell Folk School. Check out their classes at https://www.folkschool.org/

For the past 4 years we have had a puzzle booth at their Fall Festival, usually the first weekend in October. Come see us there in 2016!

Welcome to the Village from another North Carolina scroller.  I live 75 miles North of Raleigh on Lake Gaston.  Are you a member of NCWW (North Carolina Wood Workers)?  If not check them out.

Also The Klingspor Extravaganza held every October in Hickory, NC is a must attend event.  Keep an eye on the Klingspor web site for details normally posted in mid summer.
