jerry1939 Posted January 11, 2016 Report Posted January 11, 2016 There is a polka song that has in it's lyrics: "In Heaven there is no beer" "That's why we drink it here" I am 76 years old and it was already being sung when I was a teenager. Probably next to impossible to get permission (if I need it) to put this on a pattern. Asking wiser people for your thoughts. Thanks, jerry Scrolling Steve 1 Quote
Montserrat Posted January 11, 2016 Report Posted January 11, 2016 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Heaven_There_Is_No_Beer The Polka may have origins in the inscription over the doorway to the dining hall of a German or Austrian Monastery. Though, if you look at copyright listings is says Ralf Siegel copyrighted it in 1959. That's a long way from expiring. another link http://http://www.gutenberg.us/articles/in_heaven_there_is_no_beer Quote
Lucky2 Posted January 11, 2016 Report Posted January 11, 2016 Jerry, if it's for self use, I'd go ahead and make the pattern and cut it out. It's a different story, if you want to sell any of them. Len Quote
DWSUDEKUM Posted January 11, 2016 Report Posted January 11, 2016 Lyrics that are not used in a song generally are safe especially for personal use. DW Quote

jerry1939 Posted January 11, 2016 Author Report Posted January 11, 2016 Thanks a Bunch guys. I won't touch it. Fab4; It sounds like you died, got a glimpse of Heaven and a force on earth pulled you back and said, "Come back, it's not yet your time." jerry Quote
Dan Posted January 11, 2016 Report Posted January 11, 2016 Jerry, you're 76 years old. If you create the pattern and share it, by the time the legal dopeheads get to you they will have to dig you up to sue you. Go ahead and create the pattern. I'll never tell anyone where it came from. OK, I agree with Len, for personal use it's no trouble. You just can't make $1,234,432,973 off of it. Fab4 1 Quote

jerry1939 Posted January 11, 2016 Author Report Posted January 11, 2016 Dan, You didn't ask for any financial advice, but I will give you some anyway. My Sweet Wife and I bought a burial plot & headstone in NE Iowa. Dumbest investment we ever made. Not doing us a bit of good. Learn from our mistake Friend! jerry Doug 1 Quote

WigWag Workshop Posted January 14, 2016 Report Posted January 14, 2016 (edited) Or just use "If in Heaven there is no beer" "That is why we will drink ours here" or something like that :-) seriously though, it's not the title of the song correct? I don't see how this would be any different than any of the other "sayings" that are sold. Edited January 14, 2016 by WigWag Workshop Quote
jerry1939 Posted January 14, 2016 Author Report Posted January 14, 2016 WigWag You are on the right track, but to me it sounds cumbersome. Guess I better leave well enough alone, but Thanks for trying Sir. jerry Quote
Young_Scroller Posted January 15, 2016 Report Posted January 15, 2016 Jerry Im sure that if its just for personal use you should be fine Quote
