I've always wanted to learn to scroll saw. I just ordered an Excaliber 21 from Ray at Seyco that should arrive sometime next week. As I was checking out suppliers, I discovered that Sloan's Woodshop was about 15 minutes from me. I stopped by and met David and Rhonda yesterday. They are really nice folks. I got samples of various blades and some wood to practice and learn when on I get my saw. I can hardly wait.

I enjoy and appreciate all that share your knowledge and projects here at SSV. I know I will have plenty of questions as I start my scroll saw adventure.

I would like to find other scrollers that are near me in TN. If you're a neighbor, don't be bashful - step up and introduce yourself. I'd love to see your projects and see how you do 'em.

Regards,

Mike

Hi Mike,  welcome to SSV.

I am a new member also, but in the UK and only been doing woodwork for a couple of years, mainly bandsaw boxes.  I now wish to use the scrollsaw more and try my hand at Intarsia, so a new saw is wanted. I hope to get an Excalibur EX16 or EX21, as the reports are so good.

Good luck with your new saw and 'power to our elbow'

Malcolm

Mike, I work in Nashville, but live in Manchester, TN.  It is nice having a Scrollsaw store close.  It is the only scrollsaw centric store I know.  A few years ago Sloans used to host scroll saw festivals "picnics", but have not in many years now.  We had a few of us get together a few years ago, meet at Sloans to shop around, then go eat at Demo's.  We should do that again this summer for those within driving distance.

Welcome Mike !! Lots to learn here and these folks are great !! You definitely came to the right place.. Congrats on the Excalibur and from right out of the gate too !! I've only been scrolling since December (the saw was a Christmas gift from my Wife) and I am thoroughly enjoying the hobby.. Looking to move up to the Dewalt 778 in the next couple of months, myself..

Take some time and learn your way around the site here - learn the "how to's" like creating an album, a blog, etc..  Just speaking as a "newbie" myself and some of the things I had to do..

Post your work - we'll all be happy to see it ..

Most important - Have Fun !!
