hotshot Posted January 18, 2016 Report Posted January 18, 2016 I've been making scrollsaw boxes for a while, but I thought I would try to spruce them up by cutting some grooves with the tablesaw, and then placing strips of the same width in those slots. The Red wood is Padauk, and the white wood was reclaimed, so I'm not sure what it is. The last box was made more traditionally with traditional glue-ups -------Randy Rob, lawson56, Lucky2 and 5 others 8 Quote
DWSUDEKUM Posted January 18, 2016 Report Posted January 18, 2016 Excellently done Randy. I like those boxes. The one with the multiple lines looks like it might be perhaps sugar pine but that is hard to tell from just a picture. Thanks for sharing these with us. DW Quote
penquin Posted January 18, 2016 Report Posted January 18, 2016 Those are great looking creations. They look super. Since you did them on a scroll saw they have to be less than 2 1/2 inch tall and with that size limit they came out very nice. Thanks for sharing. jim penquin Quote
Scrolling Steve Posted January 18, 2016 Report Posted January 18, 2016 Very nice work !.....Those look great ! Quote

Thanks for sharing. jim penquin Jim, I think these probably are less than 2.5 inches, but there is a trick that allows us to get the boxes a bit taller. Before you cut out the middle section on the scrollsaw, you cut off the lid and the bottom (or make the top and bottom from different pieces). That allows boxes that end up in excess of 3" So basically, only the center section that you cut out with the scroll saw is limited to 2.5. Neat huh? Also, to completely blow away the 2.5" limit, you can cut multiple smaller body segments and glue them back together after they are cut. ----Randy Edited January 18, 2016 by hotshot bobscroll 1 Quote

Malcolm161 Posted January 19, 2016 Report Posted January 19, 2016 Nice work Randy. Something unusual and attractive. Good idea for increasing the depth of the box using a scrollsaw as well. Which saw do you have. Malcolm Quote
spirithorse Posted January 19, 2016 Report Posted January 19, 2016 Very nice, Randy, The boxes show great craftsmanship and the eye of an artisan. In my opinion, though, you added too many stripes to the box for my taste. As I said, that is just my personal taste. Thanks for sharing and God Bless! Spirithorse Quote
wombatie Posted January 19, 2016 Report Posted January 19, 2016 Really love the striped one Randy very eye catching. Marg Quote
