Must Be Something Going Around

Seems like I have read on here and some Facebook groups I belong to about people have problems with their Excaliburs.  Mostly problems with vibration.  I've been working on a picture and my Ex started vibrating and having a rattling sound.  Must be a virus or something going around.  I went ahead an finished the picture, and believe the vibration did not make it easy, but now I need to dig into my saw and see if I can figure out what is causing it.   Hope it is not expensive or I will be down for a while.  No I will not be down, I will just have to switch gears and try other types of scrolling.  Get some use out of my other saw.

Really nothing seriously wrong with your saw Paul. Just a matter of adjustment. On my 18 year old Ex30 it was a matter of tightening the tension located on the back top arm with a 10mm socket wrench. Adjusting the new Ex machines I believe is located on the back left side, but contact Ray at Seyco and he'll tell you in a second how to make the adjustment. These are very well made machines and the customer service is top notch. That's what makes these machines worth the extra dollar.

Mine is belt driven and hope it'll last another 18 years.

Ron, if you bought your saw that long ago it was still being made in Canada.  By the way, I also have a Canadian made EX30.

The saws that are now being made in Taiwan certainly look different than mine (and, therefore yours).  Are the internal mechanism's much the same as they were?  I just don't know.

A year ago I spoke with a service person at Seyco re: quality of their saws now being made offshore. She assured me the quality re:parts being used is the same as when they were being made in Canada. I would presume a lot of the internal mechanisms have been updated as the overall machine has. What concerns me is the quality control is not consistent as when they were being manufactured in Canada. Reason for more issues being posted as example vibration problems. I believe due to the cost of labor the company had no choice but to move their manufacturing plant to offshore in order to stay competitive.

Yes I tried that yesterday along with the adjust the motor, move the motor back and forth as mention on this forum.  Checked everything for loose bolts, etc.  It have smoothed out a little but still vibrates more then I think it should (although I could stand up a nickle and it would stay up).  There is a "growl" at high speed.  I asked Seyco about this some time ago and was told it was a rubber baffle inside the saw.  It served no purpose and I could remove it by reaching in through the back of the upper arm with pliers and pull it out.  It gets hard over time, and makes noise.  I have never found that baffle.  Wish I could.  I do not locate it in the parts diagrams....
