Montserrat Posted February 7, 2016 Report Posted February 7, 2016 Walnut and mystery wood from a scrap pile. Also: a tisket a tasket/a trivet a basket... (I am not sure, I got the angle right on the spiral. Also it broke off right at the spiral end when I oiled it. Very annoying and hard to fix. bobscroll and Lucky2 2 Quote
DWSUDEKUM Posted February 7, 2016 Report Posted February 7, 2016 Nicely done. As for the break that is not too uncommon for the first couple of these you make. You will with experience learn what the best angle will be for the blade and thickness of the wood used will be. Thanks for sharing these with us. Love the bear puzzles. DW Quote

Lucky2 Posted February 7, 2016 Report Posted February 7, 2016 Nice going Monti, what do you use to soften the edges on the puzzle? I use mini detail files, they give me a nice smooth edge. It's to bad you had trouble with the bowl, it looks nice I can imagine the problems you had trying to glue it back together. Thanks for sharing it with us. Len Montserrat 1 Quote

Len I just held it against the belt sander, which led to the inconsistencies in the edging. Sometimes it tore them from the hands. Patience is not one of my virtues, but I think the wood will teach me. ;-) Quote

orangeman Posted February 7, 2016 Report Posted February 7, 2016 Nice bear puzzle Monti! Are they German bears? Here is what I use to sand puzzle edges. Can be put in a drill, drill press, or lathe which I use. https://www.apdmro.com/3M-Scotchbrite-9416Na-p/70070905693.htm Works out to about $7 each with shipping. They last a long time. Quote
