heppnerguy Posted February 8, 2016 Report Posted February 8, 2016 (edited) When I saw (Curtisintarsia)'s great Batman cutting on here last week I was excited to see if there was any way that I might be able to use this pattern as another shot with the dreaded spiral blade. So I wrote to him to see if there was anyway that I might get his permission to give this pattern a shot. Well, I got my reply yesterday evening and he sent me the pattern along with his permission to take a crack at it. I informed him of why I wanted it and that I was hopeful to be able to cut the pattern with the spiral blade and my little experience with it and he was gracious enough to let me try. So, I want to thank you, Steve and let you know I am very grateful to you for your permission to give it a go. Here is the results. I have to say that I was happy to get it completed without any breakage and although it is not anywhere as good as the one he cut, I still was happy to find I was able to do as well as I did and feel I am making progress with the spiral, even though it still is a struggle for me. I need to keep trying if I am ever going to feel comfortable with this blade. Dick heppenrguy Edited February 8, 2016 by heppnerguy neptun, Fish, tomsteve and 3 others 6 Quote
thatknobtony Posted February 8, 2016 Report Posted February 8, 2016 Well Dick, I think it looks great whatever blade you used. Makes me think I should dig out my spirals and keep practising. I would love to be able to do something as nice as you did. Tony heppnerguy 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted February 8, 2016 Report Posted February 8, 2016 Looks good, Dick. If you want to watch a struggle, I've been trying to cut one using flat blades on my Hegner. Almost done, bu it will not be shown! Quote
Scrolling Steve Posted February 8, 2016 Report Posted February 8, 2016 That is good work Dick ! ......The spiral blade is a great blade to have in your tool box ! Quote

Paul, I can't even imagine you ending up with a piece that outshines most. you are a true artist, not just a mere craft person like myself, and I even occasionally like something I cut. wombatie Posted February 9, 2016 Report Posted February 9, 2016 You are going great guns Dick. Batman looks impressed too. I have tried them a couple of times, once I had no choice but the break so easily for me and I have trouble getting them in the holders because the ends aren't straight. No I will stick to my flat blades thank you. Marg Quote
Dave Monk Posted February 9, 2016 Report Posted February 9, 2016 If it was a struggle it sure does not show it. dave Quote

FranMike Harley Posted February 9, 2016 Report Posted February 9, 2016 Dick, that came out great !! If you didn't say you used a spiral, we probably wouldn't have even known it.. Thanks for sharing Quote
Sparkey Posted February 9, 2016 Report Posted February 9, 2016 You're turning into a Spiral pro Dick. Great job. Quote
rdatelle Posted February 10, 2016 Report Posted February 10, 2016 That came out great Dick. I also have trouble with spiral blades to. Only used them a few times and just can't get the hang of it. Still a little Leary of them. Quote
Steve Curtis Posted February 10, 2016 Report Posted February 10, 2016 Mr. Dick, That cutting looks better than mine. I may have to start getting some spiral practice in myself. I am too use to the skip tooth. You may pass the pattern to anyone who ask for it. I get so much help from a hand full of friendly folks on here. I am so happy I am able to help back. Steve Quote

Steve That is extremely nice of you to say the nice words of encouragement to me, but it really is obvious that I did not come close to the cutting job you did with yours but thank you anyway, I will keep the pattern and use it again in the future and with your nice offer, I will pass this on to whoever asks. It is a wonderful group of people here on this site. I feel honored to be accepted by all this group. It is now the first place I go whenever I get on my computer. Again thank you for your kind words and your generous offer on the pattern, both to share and to let me cut it. Dick heppnerguy Quote
