jlcook30
I'm new to scroll sawing and I bought a Skil scroll saw from Lowe's about four months ago, I was using it the other day and the blade just stopped moving. IIt's making a humming noise when I turn it on. I took the blade out and checked it and put it back in and it's still doing it. Any ideas what could be wrong? amazingkevin
Will it run with the blade out? jerry1939
Hi Friend, My starter saw was a PERFORMAX (Menards)(No longer made under that name, but identical to the SKIL, except for the color). I got a lot of years of use out of it before it died. In this posting, I called it a SKIL, because nobody ever heard of a PERFORMAX. Here is a link to what can be done with a (PERFORMAX)(SKIL); http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/topic/15271-some-of-my-stuff/ The first thing that came to my mind about your saw was "Defective Motor" or "Switch". Would suggest you talk to your Lowes manager, in a calm, not mad tone, and ask what he/she would suggest. Politeness goes a looooong ways. Our Lowes will bend over backwards to keep their customers satisfied. Our manager even called me on a Sunday saying that they found that they had overcharged me on something. jerry
LarryEA
Probably no help, but something froze or burned out. Go with Jerry.' advice ' It should have more than a 90 day warrenty
woodduck
Maybe a faulty motor or a broken or disconnected linkage.
bandaideman
May check fuses or bushings as well
NC Scroller
Since it is humming I think you can rule out the switch, fuse, or brushes. Sounds like a motor issue. I recommend you take it back.
Lucky2
Do you have access to the motor, can you rotate the shaft? Len
sullyscroller
I've had the same saw for 5 years with different issues. For the price it's a good saw. because it sounds like the motor is frozen or the linkage is frozen i'd take it back and get another skil. If you tear it down you may not be able to return it. maybe just take the cover off the left side and see what it's not doing sully Edited February 25, 2016 by sullyscroller oneleggimp
