WoodCutter
I am having a problem with a design and need some help, any takers? A little history first, In high school (59-60) I built a red cedar box for my mom, When she passed I got the box back. Well we lost one of our fur kids and I have decided to put his remains in the box. I want to do his name and years. I have 11 inches by 4in high. I thought of inlay but don't want to take box apart. We have 2 more to go in later. The box has tile inlay on the top so names will have to go on front. It has clear coat on it now to show wood. I don't have pics now but will when finished. thanks for reading Bill
Phantom Scroller
Bill you could do hearts with the name and date in as your going to add more in the box and then you can glue them on around the box just a thought, Roly wombatie, bobscroll and Scrolling Steve

Birchbark
Maybe attach this type of thing to the front, screw it on from the inside, then cut the heart out as needed, attach the name to the "veneer" and screw it back on. WoodCutter
Thank you all for your response Roly. lawson56, Steve, I thought about doing that sort of thing but more like inlay. I was going to use the dremel to make cut-outs for the parts. Just don't think my skills are up to it. Kevin, thanks I didn't think of that but again with carving out of wood. My hands aint as steady as they once were. Russell, I like that idea. I think that maybe I will cut the front out put in a light wood frame, then scroll the names in the cedar I cut out and insert when needed. Just have think about it and see what other ideas come forth. Thanks, Bill Edited March 5, 2016 by WoodCutter
Chiloquinruss
If the intended inlay is not to complicated you could take and apply your pattern to the box with removable adhesive then take an xacto knife and cut on the lines from your pattern. This would give you a 'hard edge' that when using the Dremel you won't have to be so accurate, just remove some the desired material. When doing the finishing of the box cut for the inlay use your xacto knife again to do the detail work. Just a thought. Russ.
