Montserrat Posted March 12, 2016 Report Posted March 12, 2016 Used Wenge-Wood and had terrible issues with the blades. Broke 2, was burning all the time. Used Pegas modified Geometry #5. Tried an Olson Mach #7 once for about an inch, which was even more terrible. Since the blade bent, I had issues moving the puzzle pieces as there is an unintended angle in some areas of some cuts. Still like how it turned out. lawson56 and amazingkevin 2 Quote

DWSUDEKUM Posted March 12, 2016 Report Posted March 12, 2016 Monti nice work. Did you use any kind of tape such as painters or packing tape on this. I have found that it helps lubricate the blades and keeps burning to a minimum. DW Quote
Montserrat Posted March 12, 2016 Author Report Posted March 12, 2016 Thanks for asking - yes I had tape on the pattern, too! Quote
Ron Johnson Posted March 12, 2016 Report Posted March 12, 2016 Terrific work Monti. Very well done. Quote

LarryEA Posted March 12, 2016 Report Posted March 12, 2016 Looks tough to cut. I like the tail and feathers on the feet. Good job. Quote
dgman Posted March 12, 2016 Report Posted March 12, 2016 You did a great job on it! Wenge is a very hard and dense wood. The best blade that I have used for such a wood is a Flying Dutchman Polar blade, probably a #7 or larger. I would use clear packing tape on top of the pattern and tape on the bottom over a sheet of blank paper. Even with all that, it will still burn! Fortunately, Wenge is very dark and won't show the burn marks. Using a large blade is not good for stand up puzzles though. The larger the kerf, the looser the pieces will fit, and for a stand up puzzle you want the pieces to fit as tight as possible. Quote
Scrolling Steve Posted March 12, 2016 Report Posted March 12, 2016 Nice work on some tough wood ! Quote

Denny Knappen Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 Very nice project. I cut Wenge for intarsia pieces and it is very hard. I also use FD Polar #7 blades. Quote

Gordster Posted March 15, 2016 Report Posted March 15, 2016 well done Monti....love that pattern Quote
sibbles Posted March 16, 2016 Report Posted March 16, 2016 Very nice work, had to look at the picture for a few to realize it was in fact a puzzle piece. Did you make the pattern yourself or did you get it from somewhere. Would love to see how the puzzle pieces are planned to give it rigidity. Quote
