bandaideman
Well I have an oportunity to get a table saw and it will be delivered to my home. the entire cost is Free. Actually I have a friend whose grandfather built the saw in the 50's actually 2 of them and my friends brother has the other one. He had used it and made things with it. He is setting up his Man Cave and purchased a Craftsman saw and wants to make room. He does not want to sell it but wanted to give it to someone who would take care of it. I don't know what I will do but will keep track of my fingers when or if using it. The table is attaches with piano hinge and fits over the blade. The balde does not move up or down but the table is designed to go up and down. I kind of look at it as a possible simple cut wood to better size or folk art. Not sure what I will do with it but have room so helping out a friend. Scrolling Steve

ike
be careful because they bite/. i had one that ate half of my thumb. if you fight with a power tool you are going to loose. Edited March 27, 2016 by ike
breadstick
So glad I have a table saw. It's saved me a lot of time prepping my materials. I need to get a band saw so I can trim down my own wood now. It's impossible to get 1/4" wood that isn't plywood near me. Big box stores have a couple pieces, but they're usually warped and only 6" wide.
WayneMahler
Table saws are a great tool to have. Just be very careful as they can bite with a vengeance. Safety is a very high priority on them.
dgman
I couldn't survive without my table saw. You have to learn to respect it. When that little voice in your head says "don't do that", find another way to do it!
NC Scroller
99% of my wood is cut on the table saw before going to the scroll saw. Like dgman I could not survive without one. Make sure to use a splitter and a push stick. Most TS accidents happen when you are in a hurry. Take your time and think out each cut. Bill WIlson
It's a nice gesture for you to offer to take it, but I would be very wary. Home made table saws could be an accident waiting to happen. Does it have a splitter and a blade guard? Does it have a fence and if so, does it lock down solid and line up parallel to the blade? If the answer to these questions is no, then it sounds to me like you may be inviting trouble. I have no idea what your experience level is with table saws, but I advise you to be extremely careful. Accidents can happen to the most experienced users, operating good quality saws, with all the safety features in place.
bandaideman
thanksall for the advice safety is my number 1 thought. I will look it over closely and I have a good engineer on stand by to go over it with me and see what safety features may be added or not before any use. I am leary ut willing to take as a conversation piece. we will see. it does have a fence.
NC Scroller
Beside the obvious cutting your fingers kick back is the next worse issue. This is caused mostly by the fence and blade not being parallel. Splitters will help but a good fence is a must.
oldhudson
I'd echo what Bill said.
