amazingkevin
Doing these intersecting word art plaques caused me a lot of problems from breakage of thin letters,The boards them selfs even split .I think they are teak or something harder .I used a #9 scroll reverse as the wood cut so slow.Good thing i just re uped on CA glue with spray accelerator.Saved lots of time putting pieces back as the break out All three of the "lord liveth nby three different pattern makers are cut now .i still have two costa rica limon to do yet .talkative warehouse people hindered my scrolling for hours again .I 'd like to scroll before it gets dark as the bugs start to come inside with the doors open.these hard wood plaques look so much nicer than plywood and with out a finish on the yet.thank you pattern makers. i added this icture after i sprayed clear on it Edited April 1, 2016 by amazingkevin lawson56
Lucky2
Kevin, some woods are much harder to work with than others, it seems as if you've got some of it. Good luck. Len

Len Lol, it won't discourage me from using hard wood i just not have to get to close and make thin pieces that fly apart. Thanks At least i got into my hard wood pile finally. jerry1939
Kevin, I rarely do intersecting word art, but when I do, I put a sacrifice board on both the top and bottom. I consider it cheap insurance. Also, this was brought before. I never stack cut anything, so the top & bottom pieces are thrown away. I have this thing about never making 2 things alike. Just another of my weird eccentricities. jerry

Ron Johnson
Is it possible Kevin the hardwood your cutting is too dry?
heppnerguy
I you need to use a #9 blade to do your cutting, then if it were me, i would just use a different wood and a smaller blade when I was making these signs. I have never had this problem when cutting these projects and I cut quite a few of them. Good luck, Kevin.. Personally, I would not glue a broken board as you do, because I think it takes too much away from all your efforts. Phantom Scroller
I use a 5 blade on mine Kevin not so brutal have used a 7 when I can't find my 5's never a 9 they're big. Could be the issue?
lawson56
I have cut several of them, like Roly I use No 5.never a problem.I used White Pine.Your work did come out looking Pretty darn Good.
rjones
Looking at the pictures it looks to me as if the break is straight across the board and appears like it might have broken along a poorly made glue joint. Just a thought I know you have said in the past you use a lot of reclaimed wood.
Kepy
I would think a #9 would be too aggressive for that cutting. I use a #3 or #1 when doing that style cutting and very seldom have any breakage.
GrampaJim
I agree with Kepy. I just finished a 1" thick oak piece intersecting word and used #5's and even a #3FDUR blades.
Denny Knappen
They look great. I also think a #9 is too aggressive. I used a #3 FDUR on the Rose Plaque.

Just my oppinion Dick heppnerguy The wood was 3/4" hard and cut slow with the #9 blade,i'm sure a smaller blade would have helped but i don't have time to lay with it.Doesn't look bad glued and sanded now ,Thanks Dick@ ;) ;) ;)

Yes and another thing the intersecting words were very close together and made them vulnerable for break outs! Thanks??Rolly ;) ;) ;) ;) Phantom Scroller
