I found this photo on face book of my son and his family with my daughter in-laws grandparents.  The grand parents are not in good health so I decided I would take a stab at making a pattern and cut a portrait to to give them. It was good practice for me. The outside dimentions of the frame is 19 1/2" x 14". I stack cut thee 1/8" pieced of Baltic birch plywood. Thanks again to Travis for the Gimp tutorial. dave

Mike, I use Gimp or portraits and Inkscape for every thing else. I am a slow learner so it has taken me many hours watching Travis's  tutorials which are available on this site. I don't know that one is any easier to learn than the other.  I must say that I enjoy the designing about as much as I do the cutting.

Thanks Dave !! I'll have to give GIMP a shot then and see if I like it.. I enjoy using Inkscape (since I found out about it from this site, I've actually used Inkscape for other projects besides scrolling - like as a planning / designing tool for my fireplace install, etc..) but I'll have to try GIMP and compare them..

I have to say, it may have taken you many hours to learn it but you got it down pat ! I really like the way you've been doing portraits. They come out great..
