Dave Monk
I found this photo on face book of my son and his family with my daughter in-laws grandparents. The grand parents are not in good health so I decided I would take a stab at making a pattern and cut a portrait to to give them. It was good practice for me. The outside dimentions of the frame is 19 1/2" x 14". I stack cut thee 1/8" pieced of Baltic birch plywood. Thanks again to Travis for the Gimp tutorial. dave vykus, neptun, Lucky2 and 5 others

Scrappile
Golly Monk, you are a very talented man. That looked like it would be a very difficult portrait, with so many people, and your really did a great job of it. Very nice work all the way around. FranMike Harley
AWESOME, Dave Great job. Question.. You use both Inkscape and GIMP, it seems.. Which do you prefer ? Is one easier to use than the other ? I haven't tried GIMP yet but would like to try my hand at doing portraits as well.. Dave Monk
Mike, I use Gimp or portraits and Inkscape for every thing else. I am a slow learner so it has taken me many hours watching Travis's tutorials which are available on this site. I don't know that one is any easier to learn than the other. I must say that I enjoy the designing about as much as I do the cutting. FranMike Harley

I enjoy using Inkscape (since I found out about it from this site, I've actually used Inkscape for other projects besides scrolling - like as a planning / designing tool for my fireplace install, etc..) but I'll have to try GIMP and compare them.. I have to say, it may have taken you many hours to learn it but you got it down pat ! I really like the way you've been doing portraits. They come out great.. rdatelle
That came out great Dave. I can't believe you did the pattern yourself to. Great job on both of them. I wish I knew how to do that. Dave Monk
