jbrowning
So my granddaughter turns 1 year old next Wednesday and her birthday party is this Saturday. I'm wanting to do like a stand up puzzle of a horse on 1/2 inch maple 3-5 pieces. Needing it to be pretty easy to cut out but still look like a horse. I thought I had seen one on here but for the life of me I'm not finding it. Has anyone else seen a design on here or was it a figment of my imagination? Thanks Jim
Birchbark
If all you're needing is a horse outline, I'd just search "Horse coloring pages" and cut one out that is about a full page. Do some fancy scrolling to make it a puzzle. http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=horse+coloring+pages&qs=IM&form=QBILPG&pq=horse+coloring+&sc=8-15&sp=1&sk= I love the grandkids birthday parties! Have fun. Russell Scrolling Steve

dgman
I think 1/2" is too thin for a stand up puzzle. 3/4" - 1" will be better in order to stand. Lucky2
jbrowning
Thanks everyone, I will be going by woodcrafters after work today and see what thickness they have the maple in. I want to stick with maple because she is still at the age of putting things into her mouth. And I remember reading that maple is good for making teething rings out of. And of course the pieces will be large enough so she can't choke on them. Jim
Denny Knappen
I remember in one of the magazines, three piece puzzles for little ones. None were horses, but cute. Can't remember the designer.

Honeycow
May I suggest you visit toymakingplans.com and view the video about making a child friendly beeswax finish for the gift. I have made and used it for toys and other projects as well.

ike
I have been told that the pieces are safe when they won't fit in a T.P roll. Jim Finn
