The Mermaid and the Cat's Valentine

This pair of puzzles was made in 2013.

I show its together, because the first one was a test of my skills before cutting the second.

For the first puzzle, I used a picture of Hollie Sierra " The Mermaid".

I came up with the cutting pattern and draw it on my computer, then I printed out the pattern for the whole puzzle. Then I began to cut from the middle of that pattern, becouse paper was fixed by scotch on the edges of the plywood.

Size about 8 * 10, 120 parts

The  my client  bought the next picture from the artist from Russia . I increased the size of the pattern and repeat everything again:

It was difficult to determine the outline of the puzzle. It does not match the pictire, because I do not want to make a smooth edge heart, but I wanted to make the edge of the curved pieces, which would complicate the assembly of the puzzle. So I started again from the middle, and then extended to the edges of the cutout.

Size about 12*12, 190 parts.

The puzzle cutting is one aspect of scroll work that I have no knowledge about at all.  Looks like it would be fun and your certainly look very nice.  Do people buy patterns for cutting the pieces, or do they all make them on computers like you do or do some just start cutting them "free hand"?  Sooo much to learn and soooo little time.

They are both absolute beautiful.  Have no idea how you create the puzzle pattern on your computer and honestly would hate to have to try and put one together.  Assembly they are wonderful.  Your hard work and time really show in both puzzles.  Well done.  Thank  you for sharing your work with us.

Paul, I have not heard about the sale or purchase by patterns of puzzles. Apparently, everyone is trying to come up with something new on their own. I think that the purchase makes sense only when the scroller is taking his first steps. But our own experience to be more interesting. Before working on my first puzzles, I intended to make copies of other masters. But I refused to do that allowed me to find my brand, well-known among a narrow circle of Russian fans of puzzles solutions.
