bandaideman
wondered if any one had issue wth blade slippage. I have scrolled for about 20 years and am on mysecond dewalt. Ihad done fine until the blade was coming out when scrolling as happens fro time to tme and did te usual things helped but continued. thought I would replace the thumb screws and set screw. Did that todayand if anything it was more of an issue. I only then noted the thumb screw was wabbally like the inside threads were striped a little and may not hold. So contacted local dewalt repair and will see about trying the new thumb screws in a new blade holder there. repair said it would be fine and he would check some front bearings to see f they may be part of issue free of charge justwodered if others had experience wit it. rjones
I have been using mine for the past 7 years with no blade slippage (other than not tightening the thumb screws on occasion)
heppnerguy
It sounds to me like the threads on the piece where the thumb screw goes into, needs to be replaced. Not a big deal to do. Maybe you could take that part off your first saw, if you still have it and see if that cures your ills. Just a thought. If you are using something to help you to tighten your thumb screw, like the piece that Steve Good sells the pattern for, I have seen several posts saying NOT to use them as they put too much tension on the thread, causing them to strip Dick heppnerguy

I switched the top and bottom thumb screws and that fixed that once.
dgman
If you replaced the thumb screw and set screw and still slipping, then you have either cracked the blade holder or stripped the female threads. You will have to replace the blade holder.
bandaideman
Thanks for the reassurance. I do think the threads are stripped. Thumb screw of new and old just as sloppy when put in to threads. Will get new holders today.
Lucky2
Dan, the new holders will probably solve the issue you're having with blade slippage. Len
ike
When I use FD blades I have to cleanthe blades real well and use sandpaper on them to keep them from slipping, no problems with Olson's. I also have a DW 788. Edited April 13, 2016 by ike

NC Scroller
As a temp measure try some Loctite BLUE. The blue Loctite is not permanent but helps where vibration is a problem.
ike
your blades may have oil on them from the manufacturing process clean with alchol and sand the gripping area of the blade
bandaideman
thanks all who replied. I replaced the holders and he screws. I was able to compound cut a bird house of walnut without blade coming out and i sure to slow down and let the saw do the cutting. I think we are set for now.
