Firedkm
Today I found on Craigs list a xyron 500 for $10.00 normally retails for $30.00. This is a 5" sticker maker. This little machine can put a permanent adhesive on the back of the photo. So I bought it! This little guy is very easy to use. Just put the photo into the opening and turn a crank to run the photo through. At the other end the photo comes out with a backer attached to it like a sticker. Peel off the backer and the adhesive is on the back of the photo. I applied the photo to a 1/4" bbply and cut a puzzle out of it. I had no problems with the picture pulling up when I cut it out. There was no wait time waiting for the glue to dry. I cut the puzzle within minutes of the mounting. So far This has been the best method I have used to mount any pictures for cutting puzzles. There was no spray mess like you get with spray adhesive. There was no babysitting the puzzle to make sure the puzzle does not bubble up like using liquid glue. There was not hot metal to watch out for like doing the dry mount method. I am not sure about durability just yet. I am going to let my kids play with the puzzle for awhile. They are really good at abusing anything they put their hands on! If this works out good I just may purchase the Xyron 900. This will accept items up to 9" wide and had several different interchangeable cartridges.
Travis
I've been curious how well those Xyron machines work for puzzles. My mom has one for scrapbooking and it works pretty slick. Keep us up to date on the durability. Sounds like a great way to go!

wood-n-things
Great info and what do you think the cost per puzzle will be? How much is the sticky stuff you have to replace and is it readily available? Do keep us posted. Thanks!

Firedkm
Great info and what do you think the cost per puzzle will be? How much is the sticky stuff you have to replace and is it readily available? Do keep us posted. Thanks! Works out to be $.08 per linear inch. So a 4x6 picture would cost $.48. It is a bit expensive but the time you save is well worth the expense in my opinion. As for as refills, they are available at most Michaels and A.C Moores. You can also purchase the machine there. If you get one I would suggest getting the 510 series. You have more options with that model than the 500 series. The refill cost was $17.00 for 18' of material

amazingkevin
thanks DALE for letting the cat out of the bag. Your good like that. I could use all the shortcuts i can get with these puzzles you got me started with.A.C. MOORE is right down the street and i,ll see what they have .Money is so tight .I,m sorry i could'nt buy all of your half price puzzlemas for xmas.I can barely afford blades from mikes.Last order i got from mikes i orderd everything wrong.I was to meticulous and picky and lost track of what i was trying to do and got all extra heavy duty course cut blades instead of extra fine thin as you can go blades.I read the teeth per inch wrong and thought i was getting teeth per 1/4" as i used that way to figure out how many teeth are in an inch without counting every last one in an inch .My mistake.I'll just have to do with what i have .A lesson well learned i'll tell you that.I don't want to return the blades cause i'm stubborn and i like the blades even though i may not use them.I've tryed elmers glue on a sanded piece of wood ,spray headliner glue, extra wet temp bond glue and 5 minute epoxy glue to fasten the puzzles to the wood. All too time consuming but work with what i have .Good thing i had a small supply of handyman glues to chose from .I love to cut puzzles and keychains. They really demand your attention .I love to think as i'm doing these demanding tasks.
