Rob
Well I knew I was on borrowed time. I have just snapped the tension lever on my trusty Delta Q3, what a disaster. I'm hoping I can bodge it with an imperial bolt but if not, I am in trouble. Right now there is precisely one second hand scrollsaw on TradeMe (the NZ ebay equivalent) in the whole of New Zealand and the only company that list the Excalibur is out of stock. Rob amazingkevin

loftyhermes
Rob, I think that you'll find that the lever is metric (possibly 5mm). The levers on my Delta 540 and 560 are metric. happy scrolling Steve
DWSUDEKUM
Rob sorry to hear about your mechanical nightmare. Perhaps you can make one ( scroll saw ) in the meantime... this is of course if you can't McGuyver a working fix for the broken part. Its too bad that there is not a repair center handy. orangeman
scroll saws are like toilet paper. you need to keep extras under the sink. bb Doug and amazingkevin

Kepy
You might check with Ricks scrollsaw as he uses the Q3 and is very knowledgeable.
Rob
Thanks all. The tension rod is made from brass and 3/16th but I have found a cap screw to fit so I am back up and running thankfully. Just as well because I have established that DeWalt do not sell the DW788 in New Zealand at all and the General21(Excalibur) is out of stock pending a new model. ETA is 2-3 months..... I love living here but our remoteness is a curse sometimes. Rob
Lucky2
Rob, that was a quick fix, thankfully, you weren't down for a long time. Len
WayneMahler
Wow doom and gloom and then to find a silver lining in the cloud. Happy to hear. May want to think about a back up saw in case the future holds the same dilemma.
amazingkevin
I've wore out over a dozen saws and full well know the meaning of having a back up saw.Down time is not happy time.I've been buying low priced DW788's a plenty and soon find out even though there's not a scratch on them some how the previous owner has managed to destroy it.I've gone thru 3 DW788'sn a year. All need bearings .who has time for that.i got to scroll!sorry nto, hear your dilemma. Rob
Well my cap screw bodge is working but it's hard to get the tension right so I decided to try and find the part I need. To my surprise Ereplacementparts.com have the correct part for $4.83 US. Unfortunately shipping to NZ is another $17.00 US. Oh well, needs must, so I have ordered it. Lucky2
Rob, hopefully it doesn't take very long to get to you. Len
NC Scroller
Rob might be a very long shot but have you tried a machine shop or metal fabrication shop?
Scrappile
I would not be surprised at all if it is a metric. There is only one scrollsaw I know of that is made in the US. My Ex has metric bolts, I'm pretty sure.
Rob
@Len, delivery is estimated at 2-4 weeks. @Scott, I did consider geting one made but reckoned it would cost about the same. @scrappile. I checked and it is 3/16th UNF thread. I have a bolt as a temporary fix but it doesn't have the nice soft rounded end of the brass original so will likely wear the surface it bears on. Ultimately I reckon I will bite the bullet and order an EX21 but I am being quoted a 2-3 months lead time on one of those. Rob
