I don't have a lot of money, but my step-dad would give me his last dime if he was able.  I scraped together my spare change (figuratively) and bought him a Porter-Cable scroll saw.  We got it home and I was showing him how it was an upgrade from his 20 year old Skil scroll saw.  After fumbling with the blade holder for about a half an hour, I returned it to Lowes and ordered the Delta version of my Dewalt saw.  It feels good doing stuff for people like my Dave.  My step-dad had to retire and go on disability for his back and my Mom had to retire because it was messing with his disability benefits for making too much money, so he can start making his own stuff and selling it back home to make some spare money.

FYI, the saw was on sale at Home Depot.  I asked Lowes if they price matched, and they not only did, but they take another 10% off the top of that.  The saw was originally $399, but it only cost $369 with the 2 year warranty.

That's a great thing you did for your stepdad, and it tells me he's a special person who made an impact on you and your life. It's one thing to parent, but a whole other thing to be a dad. I hope he enjoys the saw and maybe you can get him to join SSV so we can see his work in the future.
