I just read this post on another forum:

"I've just learned Mike Moorlach (The Flying Dutchman) has passed away at age 85 after several days with hospice. He will be sorely missed in the scrolling community. He was such a fountain of knowledge and good will. RIP Mike my friend."

Mike was none other then the Mike of Mike's Workshop the home for Flying Dutchman blades.

RIP my friend.

I am saddened with his passing. I will pray for the family at his time. I had gotten FD blades from him for many years always helpful and kind. He had a son living in my area of Indiana. I remember the first order I sent for so many years ago. I don't think it took an hour after sending it that he called me and knew how to pronounce my name and was speaking Dutch to me. Unfortunately he could have spoken with my dad but I am Dutch only in Name not in language. Dad and grandmother would not teach me Dutch growing up. I will miss him but have fond memories to remember him.

Oh no!  I'm sorry to hear that.  He was a wonderful person and was one of SSV's first advertisers.  Super nice guy and so helpful.  It sounds like he was surrounded by loved ones.

Oh no, what a loss to the scrolling community. Mike was a very nice man, he and I did a fair amount of business. I had approached him about selling FB blades years ago, he thought it was a great idea to have a seller of his blades that lived in Canada. We had some great conversations, and he was a fountain of information regarding scrolling and the selling of blades. It was a pleasure to deal with him, and he always wanted to know how life was treating you. R.I.P. Mike, you will be missed!

I had the opportunity to meet Mike at the Scrolling convention in Branson a couple of years and he was always a delight to visit with.  Also, he always had a sale at the end of the convention so you wound up buying more blades than you really needed.  May he rest in peace.

I have  not been on here in some time. Health concerns and other things have kept me away from my hobbies and when I get her I find out about Mike. Mike helped me out a lot when I was just starting and we had a few interesting telephone conversations. I loved doing business with Mike. I will miss him. He was a very knowledgeable man and a good and helpful man as well. God Bless you Mike, rest in piece my friend.
