Paladin
Going to check out a use Hawk scroll saw today after work that was listed on craigslist near me. Anything in particular I should check for on these saws? Steve
MrsN
Bring a blade and a piece of wood to test the saw out! Scrolling Steve and Travis
rjR
HARDWOOD and a decent blade that you are familiar with the performance of. Make it work hard to see if it has the capability left or has been mostly run out!
WayneMahler
I agree with the blade and a piece of hardwood. Run it through it's paces and look it over good. Variable speed etc. Good luck and let us know how you make out.
Lucky2
Use the saw as if you own it, cut some different types and thicknesses of wood, plywood, softwood and a piece of hardwood. Try changing blades to see what that's like, run it for a while to see how it works and sounds. Len Scrolling Steve

amazingkevin
Hold the top arm down without a blade in it and lift up and down the bottom arm to check for sloppiness and then reverse the test for the top arm Edited May 27, 2016 by amazingkevin
Paladin
Unfortunately it turned out to be a really old 16" model (216-3) that was not very well taken care of. Was definitely a pass. At least it was only 15 minutes from my house, so I didn't waste a lot of time.
Scrappile
In my area I see quite a few Hawks come up for sale. Take your time, there will probably be others.

Keep looking, something will show up good for you.
