Old Joe Posted May 30, 2016 Report Posted May 30, 2016 OK, I mistakenly tried to post this on the wrong forum page. Going to try again. This is my second vase, again using a slightly modified Steve Good design. The face and back pieces are 1/4" African padauk, the center is 3/4" oak, with 2 pieces of 1/4' Birch sandwiched in between. There is a glass test tube in the middle to give a cut live flower water. I filled the fretwork with Filo clay and baked it. I am not sure that I would use Filo again, but if I did I would add and very lightly mix it into the leaves to give it a more realistic look. ] [before I even post this, I know that the picture will be 90 degrees off axis. I'm a computer dummy, and have no idea why that happens, nor how to correct it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated]. amazingkevin, New Guy, Dave Monk and 1 other 4 Quote

Lucky2 Posted May 31, 2016 Report Posted May 31, 2016 Joe, your little vase is gorgeous, even without flowers it would look great. The color of the clays that you used, were a perfect choice for the color of wood you used. Len Quote
wombatie Posted May 31, 2016 Report Posted May 31, 2016 Joe you did a terrific job on the vase, well done. I am just not sure about the colors you chose for the polymer clay I feel that they are too bright and that they are taking away from the wood. Just my opinion. Marg Old Joe 1 Quote

It was a first time trying out the Fimo clay and I was disappointed with the leaves. I'm not sure if I would use it again, but if I did, I would mix in a small amount of another color into the green, and even try to get somewhat of a veined effect. It might be hard to see it, but that's what I did with the stems. It does show better with a flower in it. Live and learn. As I have told my son on many an occasion, you gotta screw up a whole lot to know what I know. Speaking of which, can somebody please tell me how to get my pictures to post right side up? Quote
Denny Knappen Posted May 31, 2016 Report Posted May 31, 2016 The vase looks very good. I have not tried Steve Good's vases yet. Old Joe 1 Quote

I was thinking maybe the color of the stems with a bit of the color of the leaves mixed together. Or if you get into eBay and type in polymer clay and see what comes up. No harm in looking. Sorry can't help you with your photo. Marg Quote
