MrsN Posted May 31, 2016 Report Posted May 31, 2016 In a few weeks I will be packing up and moving again. I am not really looking forward to the packing part since I feel like I just unpacked but hopefully it will be a good chance to organize everything again. Do any of you have any good shop packing/moving tips? Quote
NC Scroller Posted May 31, 2016 Report Posted May 31, 2016 How far? Will you be able to take multiple trips? Will you have to store your tools or will they be setup immediately at the new location? Quote
MrsN Posted May 31, 2016 Author Report Posted May 31, 2016 I am moving about an hour away. I have a moving company to help me with a lot of the stuff. I will have a spot to set up my tools, which is really nice. Scrolling Steve 1 Quote
LarryEA Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 Just 'get er done ASAP' I just want to see pictures of the new place... uh ... new shop. Quote
WayneMahler Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 Pack your own tools. Moving companies don't understand them. Congrats on the move. Having a setup for things helps makes it a bit easier. This is something the wife and I are talking about. Our move will be about 1600 miles though. Good luck with everything. Quote
wombatie Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 My daughter always gets colored post it notes and color co ordinates the rooms, so all the kitchen things will have say yellow notes on top and the bedroom pink notes on top, that way boxes end up in the right room and they are not searching around for things. Hope this help Katie. Marg Quote
JimErn Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 Multiple small boxes for the shop, surprising how heavy a medium size box can get. If you like the new place, fold flat the best boxes and store in the attic. Having moving boxes on hand insures you will not have to move again. <smile> Quote
NC Scroller Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 If it was me I would move my scroll saws myself. That goes for any other easily damaged machines. Your mover. Will not likely move wood, stains, finishes, and other flammable items. Quote
Kepy Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 You and Sheila should get together. I don't envy you the job. I did make a mistake one time when I just moved across town as I didn't think it was necessary to pack things so managed to get breakage. Quote
DWSUDEKUM Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 Katie Label everything. Look at getting movers insurance as well. In know it is only an hour away but things happen and some things are a real bugger to replace. Other than that have a safe move and a good reset on the shop. DW Quote
Denny Knappen Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 I sure don't envy you. Moving from MN to TN was a once in a lifetime move. Although an hour away may not be too bad. Quote
jerry1939 Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 Hope everything goes smoothly. Enjoy your "new" home, Nice Lady!! I knew a guy that would say, "I would sure help you move, if my back was better." Quote
Lucky2 Posted June 2, 2016 Report Posted June 2, 2016 Katie, good luck with your move, I don't envy you one bit. Moving insurance is something you should look into, I know of a fellow scroller who had his saw and all of his patterns stolen in a move. He had no movers insurance, and I don't think he has gotten any kind of reimbursement for the missing items. He hired a well known moving company, and he figured he'd be safe. To move the shop items, I would have a few friends help me do that. It wouldn't cost me much, just a flat of beer for afterwards. We help each other out like this all the time, all it takes is a phone call and the boys show up with their trucks. Maybe you could do it that way, you and your boyfriend must have a few friends you could lean on. Good luck. Len Quote
CharleyL Posted June 3, 2016 Report Posted June 3, 2016 In my fire fighting career I've been to three moving van accidents, two caught fire and burned the front half of the semi trailer contents. The rest of the trailer contents wasn't worth much after the heat and water got to it. Definitely, mark every box and get a good mover's insurance policy. I hope you won't need to collect on it. Pack your tools well yourself and move them yourself, if you can. Charley Quote
