Hi Scroll Saw Village

I'm very new to the scroll sawing world, six months out to be exact. I had spinal cord surgery in Dec. 2015 and have been out of commission every since. Bored with the TV and internet world I needed to get my mind and hands moving forward since I have not been mobile in some time.

A friend gave me an old Delta scroll saw and told me to go at it, it would be great therapy for me. I had no clue what to do with this old rusty machine. Where do I even start. He stated "start from the beginning" since I had all this time on my hands. Did a little research and bingo I was off and running. I was cutting silhouette pictures of cats and dogs, anything I could get my hands onto. I never complete a project until I picked up a pattern from this website.

Well the old Delta scroll saw has seen been better days and it went kaput on me. I was having so much fun even though the projects I was doing were sore sight for human eyes. It just had my mind and my hands moving and I wanted to keep going. All my fun went out the door with the old Delta.

For a minute I went back to my still state of mind and entered back into the TV and internet world and that is where the Blessings came. I ran across an Excalibur 21 scroll saw with a stand, over 100 blades which I have no clue what to do with them at this moment, four boards 5 feet by 5 feet of baltic birch plywood ranging from 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 inches all for four hundred U.S. dollars on Craigslist. People told me I hit jackpot. Now what do I do....?post-29685-0-60833500-1465586186_thumb.jpg

Well that question has been answered when I found this website and now I'm off and running finishing my first project. Although not professional or maybe not even good looking but oh so satisfying. I should get better after my double vision is corrected with surgery in two weeks.

Thanks to all here at the scroll saw village for letting me enter your world of scroll sawing. Mighty is the Blessings of others. So thanks.

Here is my project with double vision and all. Please be truthful with me.

Special thanks to Grampa for the pattern.

Ciao

Welcome from the Great White North Cliff. Working with wood is a tremendous therapeutic medium as any art form is. We've all been where you are ... at the start. What I love the most is the learning curve is infinite on a dairy basis. Congrats on your find. The Excalibur is a good quality saw that if maintained properly will serve you well for many years.

You've done an excellent job cutting and adding a frame. I question the paint. I personally find it distracting from the subject. Other than that I think you've done an amazing job. Carry on and enjoy.
