Frank Pellow
I see that courses on both Gimp and Inkscape are available at the Village University. I want to be able to create patterns along the lines of which can be found here under Scenic Patterns. My questions are: (1) Which of these two programs is better for creating scenic patters from photographs? (2) Is there better software somewhere for creating such patters? Scrappile
Gimp is more for that type of pattern making. Inkscape is for the lettering like name plates. Both are worth learning if you are smarter than me. I cannot remember all the steps...... amazingkevin
Travis
I agree. GIMP is your best bet for scenic designs like those found in the Pattern Library.

WayneMahler
Gimp does well on portraits type patterns. Inkscape is great for word art. All depends on what your looking for.
