Dave Monk
I have been doing the local Farmers Market for the past month and have done surprisingly well. Thought I would make a self portrait to use at my table. My pattern making and scrolling sure isn't as good as the veterans around here but what do you expect from a guy that is seven months into scrolling and pattern making. Spiral blades are sure a challenge no more than I use them. dave amazingkevin, Hawk, lawson56 and 3 others

Lucky2
Nicely done Dave, it looks just like the picture. Do you display both the picture and the cutting, what are people saying about it? Len Dave Monk

Falcon
I think you are doing an outstanding job! If you ever get used to spirals I have found it harder to cut with straight blades. Dave Monk

RangerJay
That doesn't look like you struggled at all!! - terrific pattern and a really impressive final product - agree with heppnerguy when he says that you are a natural at this. Also agree with Falcon - once you get used to spirals they will become your go to blades. Jay Dave Monk
DWSUDEKUM
Very nicely done. That shows your skill quite nicely. Thanks for sharing this with us. DW Dave Monk
Scrappile
Ha. you seem to be a practical man, now doesn't it make more sense to use a blade that cut all directions rather than having to move the board all over the place...... I like both types of blades, and switch back and forth to keep in practice. There are places the spirals just work better, and places where they don't. That is a great self portrait. Nice job on the pattern and the cutting. The pattern making is the hardest thing to me. Just don't have the patients to go through all the steps required. rdatelle
Dave, you are the man. I see a little dust build up on that DeWalt.LOL. I would love a pattern like that of me for my workshop but I don't know how to do patterns. I have the same DeWalt that you have, plus an Excalibur 21. ubgoofy2003
WOW, Dave, you did a fantastic job on that pattern & cutting both. You are a Natural for sure. It was a good idea to show the picture along with your piece. It really shows how well you did. Nothing better. I like the spiral blades & have to use a flat blade now & then just to keep in practice. It takes a lot to cut the sharp corners when you are used to just moving sideways. Sometimes I even stop the saw & turn the piece just so I don't have to cut sideways. Its breaks up the monotony of cutting. Thanks for letting us see your works. Appreciate it & keep up the good work. Take Care Dave Monk

Dave Monk
Ralph, If I can make patterns so can you. All you have to do is want to. All the tools you need are at your fingertips. Thanks to Travis and all of you helpful guys. I must admit, it takes a lot of time. I would rather mess around working on patterns than turn on the TV. dave

Dave Monk
Ralph, I use inkscape ant gimp. Travis has put together great videos to learn them. I'm a slow learner so I have had to watch them multiple times. A lot of guys on this site are much better than I ever expect to be but that doesn't discourage me. dave
