jbrowning Posted July 3, 2016 Report Posted July 3, 2016 Got to work with the reclaimed pallet wood that I have. Came away with these pumpkins. Not to sure if I want to burn them or just put a clear stain on it to show the beautiful wood grain. Opinions would be greatly appreciated. Lucky2 Posted July 3, 2016 Report Posted July 3, 2016 Jim, why don't you stain them with a transparent orange stain of some sort? They would be the proper color for pumpkins, and you would still be able to see the grain pattern of the wood. Len jbrowning and Scrolling Steve 2 Quote
jbrowning Posted July 3, 2016 Author Report Posted July 3, 2016 Thanks Len, I really like that idea. I hadn't thought about an orange stain. I will keep that in mind and see what others suggest. Thanks again Jim Quote
dgman Posted July 3, 2016 Report Posted July 3, 2016 I think it's time to start learning to make inside cuts. Instead of burning in the details, cut them out. Draw the detail in with a pencil, drill holes then cut them out! jbrowning 1 Quote
jbrowning Posted July 3, 2016 Author Report Posted July 3, 2016 Thanks Dan, I am able to make inside cuts. I was thinking of cutting out a couple and make it to where you can put a candle behind it. But I was concerned about how safe it would be with a open flame close to the wood. Thanks Jim Quote
newfie Posted July 3, 2016 Report Posted July 3, 2016 Those look nice Jim as for the candles you can get battery powered candles fairly cheap in dollar stores or walmart they work great for those sort of projects. We have a local cancer relay for life and people can purchase bags with candles in them to be placed around the track. jbrowning 1 Quote

Kepy Posted July 3, 2016 Report Posted July 3, 2016 You could also create an orange wash with a mix of orange acrylic paint and water. Thinned down it would add color but still show the wood grain. jbrowning 1 Quote
Scrolling Steve Posted July 3, 2016 Report Posted July 3, 2016 Like the ideas about the stain that will allow the grain to show thru ! jbrowning 1 Quote
