woodchux Posted July 7, 2016 Report Posted July 7, 2016 Scroll saw blades come in a variety of tooth sizes/styles, and some IMO look very similar to others. How do you sort & store your saw blades to save time and confusion when changing blades? Your ideas and comments are appreciated. Be safe. Quote
DWSUDEKUM Posted July 7, 2016 Report Posted July 7, 2016 (edited) I use a series of "baby coke bottles" They are exactly the right size and have a lid which you can put a label on. Just do a quick google search for them and you will see what I am talking about. DW Edited July 7, 2016 by DWSUDEKUM Quote
breadstick Posted July 7, 2016 Report Posted July 7, 2016 I got a set of plastic test tubes from Amazon. I cut a part of the package and stuff it in the tube to identify the blade inside. Drill holes in a 2x4 to put the test tubes in to keep them sorted. Quote
TripleJScroller Posted July 7, 2016 Report Posted July 7, 2016 I second what breadstick said. I do almost the exact same thing except I had printed some labels for the tubes. The test tubes on Amazon were very cheap and they work great. Quote
Scrolling Steve Posted July 7, 2016 Report Posted July 7, 2016 I bought a set of storage tubes from Seyco, and use the labels that come with Flying Dutchman blades .......Works for me ! Quote
Bill WIlson Posted July 7, 2016 Report Posted July 7, 2016 I have the storage tubes that are available from several scrolling supply vendors. I actually need to get another set, because my selection of blades is growing. Quote

My friend at the vitamin store was selling a protein drink in fat tubes great for saw blades,You could put 3 gross in them and screw the cap back on.I took the label from inside the saw blade bags and spray glued it to the outside of the tubes Quote
LarryEA Posted July 7, 2016 Report Posted July 7, 2016 My wife buys Ensure nutrition drink. I use them and have two extra caps hung over my saws where the 'blade bottle' I'm using for at the time hang. THese are perfect size to hold blades. Quote

WayneMahler Posted July 9, 2016 Report Posted July 9, 2016 We had a wedding in our family. I purchased a ton of "bubble bottles" for after the ceremony. The left overs were used up my grandkids. I cleaned them up and adopted them for blade storage, Made a holder and it keeps my blades organized for me. Quote
Dan Posted July 9, 2016 Report Posted July 9, 2016 My new blades I store in plastic tubes which are labeled. If I use a blade and it is still sharp enough for more cutting, I have a small board with magnets that I stick the used blade to. I have the board marked so I know which blade it is. If I that size blade later I know I have a used blade that is still sharp. Quote
Vott1 Posted July 9, 2016 Report Posted July 9, 2016 I bought tubes from Sloan's Workshop they have a hanging hole on the cap they worked out nice Quote
woodchux Posted July 10, 2016 Author Report Posted July 10, 2016 Many "Thanks" for all your unique ideas and comments. To store/sort scrollsaw blades, am considering using scrap plumbing CPVC 1/2" diameter tubing with caps to store the blades, and to sort them have made a color chart with mfg. blade information, adding the matching color on the blade end using model kit paint in various colors. Be safe. Quote
jscottj Posted July 11, 2016 Report Posted July 11, 2016 The 1/2 " cpvc works great. I use a short piece of hot melt glue stick slid into the pipe and a dab of the glue to seal the bottom and a cap for the top. Easy to make a wooden holder to hold them also. I've had one of them in use for over 20 years in my shop. Quote
Lucky2 Posted July 11, 2016 Report Posted July 11, 2016 I use FD blades, and I leave them in the plastic bags they come in. There's no confusion on what type or size that they are, because of the label that comes with them. Len Quote
