To help prevent lift off you MUST apply the pattern immediately to the wood. Waiting even a minute it looses a lot of it's tack. I do the exact opposite, I have to leave my pattern to dry for 10-15 seconds before applying the pattern to the wood. I've never had an issue with the pattern lifting while cutting, maybe you weren't using enough of it. I buy mine at Wal-Mart, the last can that I bought I paid $5.77 for it. I usually buy what's on the shelf, they only keep six cans of it on display. I've tried the 3M 77, and I didn't like how hard the pattern stuck to the wood.
