Rob Posted July 10, 2016 Report Posted July 10, 2016 Today I did my first proper craft fair in a local village hall. There was a good turnout although it was a bitterly cold day. I got lots of nice comments but sales were harder to come by. In the end I took $320 which wasn't too bad. The table provided was quite narrow which made it hard to display things to best effect and I think it looked a bit cluttered. I will have to work on some stands for next time. The sale is held quarterly which gives me time to replenish stock in between so I am keen to make it a regular booking. Rob WolfyPete and MTCowpoke22 2 Quote
DWSUDEKUM Posted July 10, 2016 Report Posted July 10, 2016 Very nice setup. I am glad you did pretty decently for a first show. A question though: Do you have business cards and if you do I have found it a good idea to put some out as folks like to take in the cards and while the vast majority might languish in a drawer of a desk occasionally they generate orders. Are you allowed and able to bring your own tables? Generally it will take a little while to generate a reputation for quality work and start gaining a following. I do not know about in your area Rob but in mine small boxes of all kinds sell fairly well. Keep up that great work you do, talk to your customers, smile and above all.... have fun. DW Rob 1 Quote

Rob Posted July 10, 2016 Author Report Posted July 10, 2016 Thanks everyone. I enjoyed the day and will sign up for the next one in September, hopefully it will be a bit warmer by then! I did hand out a lot of business cards so will see if that generates any orders in the meantime. Now I need to think of ways to display stuff better and maybe some new items. Bandsaw boxes is one thing I would like to try. Rob Quote
Vott1 Posted July 10, 2016 Report Posted July 10, 2016 Great job on your first show! I was so confused about the "bitterly cold" part until I realized your in New Zealand.......lol. It's 94 degrees here in South Florida today Quote
Lucky2 Posted July 11, 2016 Report Posted July 11, 2016 You have a great selection to pick from, and all of your work looks fantastic. There's no wonder that you did as well as you did, everything is top shelf material. I think that you could have done better, if you would lower your prices a bit. I don't know anything about the area you sell in, but, around here I would never be able to charge as much as your asking. And I'm not considered to be cheap, I price my items at what I figure the market will bear. For example, that candle holder that you have priced at $30.00, would sell for $10.00 around here. And the key hanger, that would be worth about $7.00, do others price their work the same as you? More power to you if you can demand those prices, it's gotta be nice. Len Quote
kywoodmaster Posted July 11, 2016 Report Posted July 11, 2016 Great looking stuff. I love the double wolf head, can you tell me where the pattern came from? Quote
wombatie Posted July 11, 2016 Report Posted July 11, 2016 You had a pretty good selection Rob. I must ask did the wolf plaque sell? (Third photo last but one) Marg Quote
Rob Posted July 11, 2016 Author Report Posted July 11, 2016 The wolf plaque didn't sell unfortunately but the pattern is available right here in the library. Rob Quote
Iguanadon Posted July 12, 2016 Report Posted July 12, 2016 Congrats on the first event. I'm a veteran of 3 events now. ;-) I'm hooked, looking for and signing up for various fairs and events as I can. Good luck and continue to enjoy. Rob 1 Quote
