Top Seller at Farmers Market

The plaque I previously showed, Cardinals and Cubs "House Divided" baseball plaque has out sold everything that I have taken to Farmers Market. The stuff that I am really proud of, and trips my trigger there has not been much interest in. I've had a lot of requests already for football so I thought I had better get in gear. The football measures 14" x 9". dave

Dave over the years that I have been selling my wares in different markets one thing above all was very clear.  What you think should be a good seller and what the potential wants of the customers can be and almost always are different.  You can somewhat minimise this by having a wide selection of different things.   Team plaques, Championship plaques and signs, awards and potential trophies that can be ordered, that kind of thing.  Glad you did well at the farmers market.

Whoa! Thanks for the silver bullet on what's selling ans what's not!

Nathan, I use maple, birch and oak 1/4" MDF plywood. I was using 1/2" Baltic Birch for the backer and I recently switched to MDF. The edges are a pain to finish but it is a lot cheaper. I do design all my sport patterns myself using Inkscape. I am always happy to share. My patterns are never good enough to post because I make adjustments with a pencil before I cut them. dave

I agree that you never know what will sell well.  When I started, I made a bunch of decorative and functional fireplace bellows that I think are very cool, unique, and would sell well.  In ten years I have only sold about six.  There is just not a market for them.

I had the same results making 24" long cedar trunks.  I guess I sold about twenty of them in ten years.  I then started making small boxes with left over cedar scraps from making the trunks and wow!  they just  took off.  I  started to decorate them and now do inlays in the hinged lids.  I have sold well over 2000 of the boxes and only six bellows.  I had similar weak sales with intarsia.

Producing a wide variety of things, just a few of each, is the way to go. You will find out what folks want.  I have sold some sports logos and a lot of military initials.  U S M C sells best here.
