Old Joe
I'm still new at this scroll saw stuff. I have also been working on ribbon boxes, but mainly on vases. Two have the fretwork filled with FIMO clay. The first one I had just used one color on the leaves, the newer one I mixed the clay to try to get a more realistic look. All of them are Steve Good designs, though I have modified most of them to accommodate test tubes. One is made of Zebra Wood and I decided not to do any fretwork on it, as I thought it would detract from the beautiful grain. I feel as though I am learning something new on each one. If I had to pick a favorite, I guess it would be the middle one in the last picture. But that could change each time I look at the. Thanks, everyone for your encouragement! Scrappile, that one in the middle that you referred to is five pieces glued together: 1/4" walnut on the front and back, 1" cherry in the middle with 1/8" poplar sandwiched between the cherry and walnut. After I scrolled the fretwork I taped the front and painted the inside cuts. Then I painted the poplar red behind where the flower would end up and did the same with the green. The cherry has a 1 inch cut through the center lengthwise to allow a test tube to fit in for water for the flower buds. Scrappile
