Phantom Scroller
What about finding someone who makes little chairs and put you own stamp on them by taking out the top piece and making a slot in the top with a chisel to slide a new scrolled piece in with any name you of your choice save loads of work and whoop the price up. Years ago I had a friend who sadly died who use to make mini chairs on a lathe and his wife used to make cuddly dolls to sit on them he was very busy people loved them. MTCowpoke22
My brother-in-law, a fancy table maker, finally talked me into a getting a pocket screw setup. And I'd have to admit, its one of my best buys. Not sure why I didn't bit the bullet sooner. $40 for the Kreg R3 kit on Rockler. But Roly has a great idea as well. Hope you find something that works well and minimizes your cost. amazingkevin
Birchbark
If I'm understanding you correctly, you are only needing the tables, correct? If that's the case, just build the skirt first and attach the legs on the inside of the skirt and do away with the angled braces in the corners. Screw from the inside through the legs into the skirt. Attach four 3/4" x 3/4" strips on the skirt to screw the top down from underneath. Make the holes a little oversized in the cleats you put on the skirt to allow for any movement (swelling, shrinking) of the table top. If you're going to try and make the chairs as well, then i would say that i'd charge at least $65 for each chair! lol. Rob
Kevin, you could use dowels to join the apron/skirt to the legs. You could make a simple jig pretty easily from some hardwood scraps. Rob amazingkevin
kywoodmaster
Kevin Great ideas on the how to parts but I am like Russell, I think 65.00 wont make you much money if you have to buy materials. Good luck. amazingkevin
Lucky2
Kevin, $65.00 per set, what does a set include? Is it two chairs and a table, one chair and a table, or what? Either way, if your expected to supply the materials and the work, then $65.00 just isn't enough money. I know things are tight Kevin, but, there's no sense in working just to break even. You've been doing this wood thing for many years now, and you know how much it costs to make things. Your going to have to start charging more for your work. Don't let people tell you how much they'll pay, instead, tell them how much you want and stick to it. If they won't pay you what you want/need, then they are just taking advantage of you and your situation.
