Old Joe
The oppressive heat and another Steve Good pattern inspired me to use up a couple of scrap cutoffs I had around. 1" Red Oak is a pain to scroll, especially the scalloping around the back plaque. lawson56 and frankorona
meflick
Looks great Joe. I was outside enjoying the morning and the cool air that we finally have a bit of before it heats up again today. Although I think today we are suppose to get a break and only be around 89 today - first time without a mid-upper 90s day in almost two weeks. (Far from our "norm".) DWSUDEKUM
Very nicely done Joe. I have seen something like this but in metal and it was a clock hanging in a breakfast + Lunch place. Thanks for sharing this with us. DW
rdatelle
Nice job Joe. I know how that Red Oak could be. just did the Lords Prayer in Red Oak. Used a #3 reverse blade for the whole thing.

Old Joe
Joe, it's nice looking piece, is the backer oak also? Len Yes, all 1" oak. One board that I had left over from some shelving project. I cut the scrap in half, made the grain horizontal on the back piece, stained it with several coats of MinWax Expresso. The sun was grain vertical, stained with Golden Oak.I used FD UR 5's and 7's for the whole thing. If I were to do another one, or a variation of it, I think I would use an old 7 1/2" circular saw blade for the back piece, paint it black, and glue the sun to it. Or make the sun bigger and use a 10" blade. Edited July 29, 2016 by Old Joe
