Popular Post olddust1 Posted July 29, 2016 Popular Post Report Posted July 29, 2016 As some of you know, 98% of my scroll saw work is to raise funds for my favorite charity, the Arizona Lions Clubs Handicapped Camp. ( arizonalionscamp.org) I just sent them another $1,000.00 which makes my total over $48,000.00 up to now. I used to travel the state to do craft shows but cannot handle them anymore. I am 82 now so I mainly bar hop with some samples and also have a wall display in a local Cafe. A few months after the camping season I get some pictures of the campers I have been able to help that year and their smiling faces make it all worth it. Pick out your favorite charity and devote some time to help support it. You'll feel great about it. John Old Dust Riksss, amazingkevin, DukeNukem and 18 others 21 Quote

Gordster Posted July 29, 2016 Report Posted July 29, 2016 Very generous of you John...I tip my hat to you Sir Quote
jerry1939 Posted July 29, 2016 Report Posted July 29, 2016 John, I take my hat off to someone as kind and hardworking as you, especially for such a long period of time. I give most of my pieces to the Stephan Ministry at our Catholic Church. It's a group of people that visit and console the grieving, depressed, homebound, etc. to be given to help take their minds off of there burdens. Hopefully, when I show up at the Pearly Gates, one of them will try to pull me in. jerry amazingkevin 1 Quote

Iguanadon Posted July 30, 2016 Report Posted July 30, 2016 Nice work John. I personally donate $5 of each piece I sell to a dog rescue that my wife and I are associated with. I make a donation monthly based on my sales and I post the receipt on my Facebook page so that everyone sees that it's for real. I'm only a beginner, just started with a booth at the local farmers market 5 weeks ago. I mention the donation as soon as people ask what my prices are "$25 and five of that goes to the Australian Cattle Dog Rescue..." Quote

meflick Posted July 30, 2016 Report Posted July 30, 2016 Wow John, that total is very impressive and you have done a lot of good for many people. I am sure that the Lions Club people are great fans of you and your work. Nothing can help you feel better then knowing that you are doing something you love and helping others with it. Thanks for your generous heart and spirit. While I just starting out - I was thinking a while back, it won't take long for work to start "stock piling" - this is a great way to help others, clean out the stock, and let a person keep doing the work they enjoy. The other lesson here is that over time, even small gifts/donations can add up to a lot. You have inspired me, Thank you! Kevin - Please don't dismiss your method of giving back to the world either - the happiness that your work brings to you and to those whom you give it away to (who may not be able to afford it otherwise) is no less a wonderful contribution to making the world a happier place! No price tag can be put on happiness for you or the recipients! Quote
