nicholas
For all the desk clock makers, what do you do when it comes to the hole for the clock? Do you drill all the way through the wood or just deep enough for the clock to fit? I've done both and I have problems with both. I like the looks of not drilling through the wood, but since I like to save the battery of the clock between shows it's difficult to pry the clock out to start it without damaging the edges of the clock. Going all the way through the wood makes it easy to remove the clock but like I mentioned earlier, I'm not crazy about being able to see the back of the clock. I know it's the back of the project but it bothers me. Any words of wisdom?
Firedkm
I dont do clocks.........but what about drilling a small hole through to the back just big enough to poke something into it?
Dan
I made one recently and did just as Dale described: drill a hole in the back big enough to push a dowel or pen through. Works great. Dan
nicholas
I've done that also. It's not too bad.
JTTHECLOCKMAN
Did I mention I make clocks??? You do not mention what size the clock insert is. Normalli if it is a 2-3/4" insert and you are using 3/4" wood you need to drill all the way through anyway. If it is the small 1-7/16" I only drill deep enough for the insert to fit in. I do not put a battery in the clock until it is bought.gone through alot of batteries that way. I use the blade of a pocket knife to pop the insert out if I can not do it with my fingernail. Never had a problem. I include instructions on the bottom of the clock that explains this and how to adjust the time. What the others have said is not a bad idea if you feel more confortable with that. Good luck.
ThCubed
Maybe you could put a felt backing that covers the hole. If you use the type that has the adhesive on it you can take it off and on. Or use felt without the adhesive and use glue dots so you can take it off and on when needed.
