Gordster
Kevin, you have to get go a Doctor and find out why you sleep so much. It may be a factor in your weight control.Stick to the water, leave the sodas etc.behind. I know its hard to walk in the heat there, but you hsve to get some activity going there. Maybe early mornings , you could get out.You don't need to jog along but just something a little faster than a stroll.Might help energy wise also. Take care and be well

Dan
I agree with everyone. Doctor, diet, and exercise. If you have a social group you belong to (a church or retirement center) see if they have a support group that can help. Join a walking club. Being around other people can help tremendously. Hang in there pal, you'll figure it out. Edited August 5, 2016 by Dan danny
woodduck
You can do it Kev start by walking a short distance then gradually increase it ,but do see a doctor first.
Jim Finn
I was gaining weight when I was working at construction when I was forty. Up a ladder 50-100 times a day. I never exercised more than that, but I did change to a mostly raw food diet, I lost 30 lbs. in three months and kept it off for 12 years. I started gaining weight again when I grew tired of living on nuts and twigs and no alcohol or soda. I have started back to controlling my food intake and am now loosing weight slowly. For me at least, weight control is all about food intake. I never have exercised since I finished military basic training, in 1960. My wife has had similar experience and is down to her suggested weight, with no exercise. The older we get the harder it is to control weight. amazingkevin
Sycamore67
Kevin...you need to see a doctor and not get medical advice on a forum. Do not walk but run to the doctor...the life you save will be yours. Lucky2, NC Scroller, Phantom Scroller and 1 other
Phantom Scroller
Kevin get to the Doc while you can still walk, there must be something wrong if you keep sleeping. God Bless. Roly Lucky2
WayneMahler
Everyone seems to agree for you to see your Dr. as do I. Then start in on moderate exercise and work you way up. Prayers heading for you. Lucky2
vykus
Go to a Doctor ASAP. It sounds like Sleep Apnea. This can damage your heart. I know, I have it. After you have that covered, get that weight under control. It sounds like you are at a point where you need outside help, don't be proud, get the help you need. Travis
Find a doctor. Your sleep problem could be an indicator of something more serious. From there, do what the doctor recommends. He'll have the best advice on how to get back to feeling normal in the safest way possible. Stay safe, my friend. crupiea
I lost 130 lbs so i know how you feel. seems impossible but its actually pretty simple. 1- This weigh yourself the first day. now eat exactly like you do now, nothing different. the only thing different is that you need to write down everything you eat. everything. write down the time you ate it too and how much. 2- next week. do the same thing but this time try to eat the same stuff but now split it up into 6 meals per day. So instead of skipping breakfast and eating a giant lunch, eat that same food but onky eat like half for breakfast and the second half for lunch. Make sure you are aiming at about every 3 hours. Absolute worst case, you are still hungry and will eta again in 3 hours. not too hard to do that. write down everything you eat again. 3- Week 3. now start looking at those same meals figuring if you can trim the sizes of them some, maybe 1 slice of toast or no cheese, something simple like that. of course write it all down. 4- week 4. now you have been doing this for 3 weeks so you know you wont starve to death and you dont have to eat celery all day so start taking a closer look at those calories that you are really ingesting. Just by doing this and shopping smarter you can trim a huge amount and not feel like you are starving to death. 5- Now start dealing in the diet, calorie wise every meal. shoot for a target calorie intake every day and make sure you hit it. trying to outsmart it and not eat wont work so some days you will have to eat even when you arent hungry to keep the machine working properly. I would personally shoot for about 2500 cals per day as a starting point. everyone is different. the key is, if you eat that much per day all week and lose1-2 lbs, then its working so stick with it until you stop losing. The trick is to write down everything and to be honest when you do it. you are only lying to yourself. Also, forget salad and veggies and all that jazz. i didnt and still dont eat any of them and lost weight just fine. After this its just a matter of repeating this every day until you hit your goal. you are going to be eating every day anyway so might as well lose some weight in the process. Lucky2
Kevin, I'll keep you in my prayers, and I pray that it helps. To ask us for help is one thing, but, you've got to help yourself out also. You have to see a Dr. there's no way around it, then you have to do what the Docs tell you. I have other things I'd like to tell you to do, but, since I'm not a Dr. I won't. Len WayneMahler, Old Joe and danny
jerry1939
Hi Friend, Not a lot I can add EXCEPT; Almost every woman will say men take better care of their cars, tools, etc, etc, than they do of their own bodies. Please change your priorities. Stay the heck out of your workshop until you have gained some control over your own health. The impression I got was that you are doing everything you can to give yourself a heart attack. As the male species, almost everyone of us is too dense to recognize our own problems, be it drinking, gambling, overeating etc. You deserve better Old Buddy. jerry
heppnerguy
I lose 25 pounds, six years ago so I would do better walking in our Europe trip. I still have not gained any of it back. I started by walking about three blocks a day and increased it a little each time until in a short time I was walking about 6 miles a day. I never increased it after that. At the same time I started cutting my food portions and quickly discovered I did not need to eat seconds or third helpings of anything. I then started using smaller plates and did not pile the food on it, just reasonable portions. I drank a tall glass of water with each meal the really helped me to feel full after my smaller helpings. Eat slower too, that helps. Eating smaller amount, more often is also helpful to not getting too hungry and then followed by eating anything in site. I also decided that I do not need to give up the things I really like, but instead making sure if they are foods ri know are not the best for you, like ice cream or jam, I found I could still eat them in small helpings. Example: jam I use just a dab on my knife tip and spread it as thin as I can to cover my bread. I mean as thin as I can.. The taste is there just not the caleries another example: ice cream , ( my weekness). I used to load a large bowl and then put chocolate syrup on that and probably eat a couple of those, if I could force it all down. Now I eat vanilla only and about one cup at a time no added syrup. It satisfies me well, but it took a little time doing this to understand I did not need near as much of anything to be satisfied. This worked for me. I agree that you need to go to the doctor soon and follow his directions, not ours alone. One thing I rediscovered is..............I enjoy breakfast cereal and most of it has a lot of processing and sugars with little to no food value but, I remember listening to Paul Harvey and one of his sponsors was TOTAL cereal. I took a box of it off the shelf and retread the information panel and discovered it is loaded with a lot of food value we do need, like MANY at 100 percent of what we need in our diet but the really good side is that it is filling but only has 100 calories per serving. Good luck my friend, be sure and go see the doctor so you can fill all the orders you need to do. Dick heppnerguy

kywoodmaster
Kevin do you take neurotin by chance? It is sometimes used to manage nerve pain. DR put me on it last year after about a month I was having problems staying awake at work was a danger to everyone on the roads and had gained 20 pounds. If you are taking it DO NOT STOP COLD TURKEY it is a drug that you must be brought off slowly. Good luck and find a DR.

meflick
Just wanted to ditto what everyone else said Kevin, see a Dr. - have them check your meds and see if there is some thing causing your sleeping a lot, etc. only you can decide that you can take care of you. We will be here to cheer you on, but you have to take the steps needed to help you get to better, happier health. That starts with seeing a dr who can help you figure out the best path for you. Good luck, prayers being said for you.

Debi Shipman
I'm new around here and don't really know anyone, but I want to throw my 2 cents worth in. Have you had your blood sugar checked? My mom was a big woman (350-400 lbs as long as I can remember) and she started sleeping a lot and had no energy. Come to find out she had diabetes and her kidney function was almost nil. Please see a doctor as soon as possible.
