jhva
Probably blasphemous to say in a scroll saw forum that I'm a CNC Router guy but have an interest in expanding my horizons and learning the art of scroll saw cutting, etc. Currently reading reviews on a few scroll saws and trying to make an educated decision on which one to start with, etc. Budget is in the <600$ range. Scrappile
Welcome to the forum. Hope you enjoy your stay. In my opinion the best saw you can get in the <$600 range would be the DeWalt unless you are willing to settle for a used one. I have seen some Hawks and Hegners in that range, but be careful and know what to look for.
Clayton717
Welcome to the Village. I agree with Paul for your price range the dewalt 788. We won't hold the CNC thing against you
amazingkevin
A CNC guy told me he could'nt tell cnc work from mine Welcome friend! jhva
heppnerguy
I too have to agree with Paul. You can some times find a DeWalt on E bay for about $400 or less, brand new. I got both of my new ones that way Welcome to the village. Some of the patterns here are requested to not be cut on a CNC machine, so please honor those requests Dick heppnerguy jhva

Denny Knappen
Welcome to the forum from TN. My first saw was and still is a DeWalt. I also own an EX21. jhva
jhva
Thanks everyone. Saw a 788 on ebay yesterday for 399 should have jumped on it but not sure of my needs yet. I was going to play the Amazon game of sticking one in my cart and waiting for the price to get discounted the longer in sits in the cart. Works sometimes. Rockytime
Welcome from Colorado. I'm a newbie and have not scrolled anything yet. Nearly finished setting up my saw. jhva
Sorcier
I started on a Porter Cable and went to a Dewalt. What a difference!!!!! From what I understand Dewalt and Delta are pretty much the same saw. You definately don't want to start on a low quality saw. Look at the forum on different saws and buy the best you can afford. wombatie
Hi John, welcome to the Village. I'm Marg from Australia. I have had my DeWalt for about 10 years and I still love it. I also have an EX21 which I have had about 5 years and I don't love it as much. Sorry that was no help to you what so ever was it? jhva
Trying to find a Dewalt at a decent price is the trick now. I have seen them for 700's down to mid 500's new.
jhva
Bought a DW788. Opened the box and found the bevel knob broken. Company is sending me a replacement. To the guys that have this saw did you buy the optional metal stand? Have read good and bad reviews on it so I was thinking I may make a stand for it. meflick
Welcome to the forum. Like you, I am a relative newbie to the saw and the forum. Sorry yours came damaged but glad it was a simple knob easily replaced. I have that saw but mine came with the stand. I have mine on it and have no issues or problems with it. jhva
